Yeah. Anyways, i recently re-installed steam, installed a new graphics card (GeForce FX 5700VE), and i have directx 9.0b (I think). So i re-downloaded DM, and now trying to start it it gets to the loading screen, goes back to desktop, says 'Failed to set video mode-resetting to defaults. Game will now restart with the new video settings.'

The you click ok, and it does this 5 times, before going 'Failed to set video mode; this game has a minimum requirement of DirectX 7.0 compatible hardware.'

Help me, i want to get back to double-headshotting people.

/EDIT I think it's probably a problem with my Videocard drivers, and it seems to be affecting all source games on my platform. San Andreas, on the other hand, runs fine.

1.) You have DX9.0b SOFTWARE.
Your GFX card will run at DX8 HARDWARE.

2.)Well I don't know why it wont work. Update your drivers.

i had the same problem when i reinstalled my system and dl'd the 'latest' video card drivers. you simply need the previous version of the drivers.
forceware 71.84 works just fine

Yeah, I had this problem as well. Re-installing the old drivers worked. If you need a link to the old working drivers its here http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html I hope this helps.

also, get dx 9.0c ffs, probably wont help but well... its best to have the newest stuff!
