Taking Pills

How do you take pills?

Just out of curiosity, I wanted to see how many people aren't able to swallow pills.
 
why cant you swallow pills...if you can manage to swallow food you really shouldn't have a problem, unless its a mental tick of some sort.
 
Sometimes I try to swallow pills even with a drink, and it gets stuck in my throat for a moment causing me to gag violently.

Usually I try to take my pills while chewing some food. I chew the food, put the pill in my mouth and swallow. There's pretty much no risk of that awful gagging.
 
* Insert pill
* Drink glass of water
* Pretend the pill isn't there...and voila!
 
sounds like someone grew up on chewable Flintstone vitamins
 
When I was young I had trouble swallowing pills, I had to crush them up or put them on jelly or yogurt. Now it's almost too easy.

To be honest, I ****ing did.

But I don't consider pills to be hard to swallow. I do it all the time when I have to. The ones that pose some trouble are the dry surface ones like cheap aspirin. I prefer the ones with a smooth almost waxy surface.
 
I put the pill(s) in my mouth, say no to water or liquids, and swallow. I've never really had a problem.

Those dry paracetamol ones taste like crap as well, hate taking them. Capsules are fine though.

Hmmm....I like that idea. I think I could be a MILLIONAIRE! Raz, if I do it, you get 30% a run, just for suggesting it.
 
I'm not sure what the problem is, but I've never been able to take pills. Every time I'll go to swallow one it feels like my esophagus tightens up and I notice nothing but the pill. The fews times I've managed to swallow a pill, I've had to seriously force myself to swallow.

It's a serious liability not being able to take a pill.

I can do that too, but one time I did I got a horrible stomach ache. I think I was supposed to have food in my tummy.

Yeah it's generally a good idea to take pills with a meal or when you have food in your stomach.

Don't take Vitamin C and Zinc on an empty stomach... you'll feel nauseous for hours like you have to throw up, and it's no fun at all... especially since it's counteractive to what they're supposed to do, make your immune system stronger against illness. heh.

I used to have problems swallowing pills when I was a kid, but now it's OK.

Gagging violently on a pill? That's weird. Unless you're taking some huge pills.
 
ya...i have a problem sticking pills in my ass too
 
The first couple of times was hard, but now I can easily swallow pills.
 
I can't swallow pills, putting them in my mouth and swallowing, I push up my tongue sub consciously so the pill gets stopped and the water goes down. It's purely psychological, because if I chew a small amount of food, push the pill into it then swallow it's completely fine. Extremely odd as that food is usually much bigger than the pill itself.
 
Food is also more thoroughly coated with saliva though as you chew it. A much larger surface area of saliva.
 
I always have to take tablets with a drink. I can not for the life of me take them with food. My mum does that but there's no way I can. I'm just glad I got over my hatred of Paracetamol caplets. They still taste really horrible but I don't notice now. I remember years ago when I was about 8 or something I had a really bad headache and my mum didn't have any Calpol with us (Calpol was the medicine I always took when I was little whenever I wasn't feeling well); she only had paracetamol caplets. I really didn't want to take them and started crying, but eventually my headache was so bad I had to try taking them. I tried taking them with Doritos...very bad idea!!! I nearly puked. I was pit off paracetamol after that until years later when i could take it with drinks.
 
I can swallow small pills. The bigger ones I have to split somehow.

I can swallow pills, most without water but some with.

I don't have any trouble taking pills. Only really large pills feel awkward going down but they still go down pretty easy. Often, I'll think about taking them without water and save the hassle of getting a glass etc. But I usually decide to get some water anyway.
 
Oddly enough, I usually take pills with no food in my stomach, and am fine. Maybe I'm just lucky thus far.
 
I can't remember ever taking any pills. What are you all taking pills for?
 
I've never had much of a problem, some larger pills can be uncomfortable but as long as I have something to drink it's fine.
 
I never really had a problem. When I first had to take a pill i had some trouble because I kept blocking it with my tongue when i drank it with something. But I found it easier to just swallow it without water, because my natural instinct of not letting something solid get swallowed with a drink didnt get in the way.
