Who are the Auxiliaries or Civil-Protection?

What is their personal and over all goal?

How do they get recruited?

Do they go in off world work?

Citizens who are fed up of life under the Combine rule can essentially join it - as a Civil protection officer. Turning your back on family, friends and humanity as whole you recieve better food, better living and less brutality - but are expected to dish it out.

They don't go off world, they are primarily Earths police force.

It's only Combine Soliders who end up going off world, Civil Protection do just that, Just stay in a Civilian Area on Earth and make sure the Citizens don't breach any rules.

...they are harsh with citizens because otherwise the higher-ups are harsh with them.

...they get rewarded for it.

...they enjoy it.

Probably a combination of the first two and sometimes the third. Another possibility is that when they reach a high enough rank they have their memories wiped and are "re-programed" to be sadistic sons of b!tches.

It is also possible that plenty of Civil Protection officers really aren't bad people but are being more or less forced to do bad things just to survive. Something not unlike some gang members/criminals in the world's various ghettos.

Most of them volunteer. Some might be drafted, but there's no evidence to suggest such.

Do they go in off world work?

As others have said they are threatened with it.

What kind of equipment and armor they have?

Boots, coat, light bullet-proof vest (not very bullet proof), 9mm side arm, and sometimes an MP7.

It's obvious the Civil Protection cops are humans that simply turned tail and found a better life. I'm definitely agreeing on the CP Cops being humans under a mask, but they may have been enhanced in a few ways (stronger, quicker thinking, more agile?). Remember seeing a dead Civil Protection cop stripped on a hospital bed in one part of Nova Prospekt (It was on one of the interactive monitors; It cycles to a Stalker in his "cage," a dead CP cop on a hospital bed minus his shirt and mask, and the next large room full of Overwatch guards)?

The CP cops are so rough mostly because of:

A) They are SUPPOSED to do that or face execution from the higher-ups, like Overwatch or Breen himself. Maybe demotion to a Stalker?

B) Maybe they're just dishing back the punishment THEY got before they joined Civil Protection.


The Civil Protection mission statement is simple: Keep resistance to a minimum and eliminate any traitors who would stand in the way of the Combine's ideals.

Recruiting CP cops is probably a lot like signing up for the army. Just go to the nearest recruitment station and sign some papers or whatnot.

Civil Protection doesn't doo off-world sorties, they are called CIVIL Protection for a reason. Most of the off-world fighting is left to Overwatch and the Combine army.

Combine standard loadout looks something like:

Civil Protection: Standard uniform (Gas mask with voice filter and radio, Flak jacket with bullet-proof vest built in, heavy material pants, and steel-toe boots), a Stun Stick, a 9 MM pistol as a sidearm, and a machinegun (the little one) in case of emergencies. Some CP cops also carry one or two Manhacks or their belts.

Overwatch: Standard uniform in Overwatch colors, a weapon (Machinegun, Pulse Rifle, Sniper Rifle, or Shotgun), a few Fragmentation grenades, some signal flares, some flares for dark rooms, and maybe a Manhack on the Grenade belt.

I get the impression CP's are 100% human because:

1.) Barney can pass as one

The gas-masks likely serve two functions:

1.) Protect CP's from any chemical weapons that might be employed by the Combine or Civil Protection itself (like say, tear gas)...

2.) Being masked means you can't be identified. Psychological tests have shown that when people can't be identified they are more apt to do bad things. Especially if instructed to do so by an authority figure.

But it dos not make any cense to me that why they have to be bad? I would understand if then, if their not from Earth or some thing like that. Or their seeking revenge of their buddy’s or comrade’s death after the War, but the Civil Protection did not fight in the War…

Why does anyone do bad things to anybody? --because they're the enemy or because they're forced.

CP's likely have their memories wiped and are coerced into doing the Combine's dirty work. If they don't comply they don't get their increased rations, non-mechanical reproduction simulations, much less continual breath in their lungs.

Plenty of CP's may honestly agree with Dr. Breen feel that resistance is feutile(sp?) and short-sighted.

No one has been capable of making babies for over a decade (maybe two). All the kids are grown up.

The gas-masks would likely serve that function off-world too, but they serve a purpose on Earth as well.
