Hasnt anyone thought of this yet?

???????

Let me explain
The "invaders" as they should be called COMBINE their race together with the dominant race on the planet
The COMBINE are simply a COMBINATION of the invaders and humans.
And what are all those moving pod things in nova prospekt and the citadel, well its very obvious, this is where the invaders get the dominant species and themselves (possibly the alien creatures we saw) to COMBINE together.
Thoughts

Which makes them the combine...

EDIT: But yeah, its probable they aren't officially called 'The Combine', I mean, they might not refer to themselves as that.

Ahh but the point im getting at is the whole invading race isnt called the combine, just the humans who have been combined.

Their real name is the Universal Union. However, other people (or "lesser minds" as Breen calls them) refer to them as the Combine.

Where did you get the Universal Union bit from? Is it in those newspaper reports in black mesa east?

Yeah I see your point, that is true. What they do is combine, like for example, a human might teach, they are a teacher (obviously the combining is a little more extreme lol!), but they are still human. So these "invaders" are nameless, much like the Gman really is. Sorry I see it now.

EDIT: Universal Union, can again be what their 'army' is called so to speak. But I'm not sure if it's what they are called.

"Same minds". Meaning ignorant people. Breen uses the term Combine himself later on, so I think that's was just way of getting people to think differently about the Combine. Universal Union sounds nicer than Combine.

Yeah, but when he says it he uses that tone as an old school teacher. You know:
"Why has the... "combine" (tilt head slightly to make sure everyone knows you're better than them) chosen to inhibit our reproductive cycle?"
In fact, I'm fairly sure the VO actor was asked to speak like a teacher, he certainly sounds like one.

well.. my brother came with the idea that the grey alien ( in the citadel) prowlers are the combine... on without suit or anything like that. I thought it was a pretty good theory but probably has its flaws.

Breen says it at one point in one of his speeches. I can't recall at which point in the game.

And yeah, not "lesser minds". Sorry about that.

I doubt that, because if you watch the little 'scenes' with the prowlers in they are always being used as slaves. They are fixing up gunships, or working on a computer while being guarded by a combine soldier, if they were 'real' combine they would be treated a bit better than that.

Personally they always made me think of concentration camp victims, the way they looked almost non-human when they were rescued because they were that emaciated and skeletal. I always assumed they were simply combine humans that were used as labour, instead of soldiers.

I think the only real combine we've seen is the big slug thing on the monitor at the end, which makes sense if you think about it. If the combine are a species which gets its power from using other races as slaves, its logical to assume they are not very suited to fighting themselves, and a big fat giant slug would be pretty rubbish as a soldier!

i agree with the dude above, the prowlers do seem to be under control by the combine guards there is never a prowler alone exept the which is in the transporter thing inside the citadel, it goes past and its got its eyes masked over and banging its head on the back of the "carrier"
