I just got it and watched it all in one sitting. Now what I thought was a very good movie is a great movie in my opinion. The extras add alot of life to the movie and answer a few questions I had at the end.

The mouth of Souron was VERY well done. I had never been scarred/freaked out by anything in all of the trilogy but the mouth of Souron seriously gave me some goosebumps. Very nice scene, I have no idea why it was not in the theatrical release.

Anyway, who's seen it/has it? You're thoughts?

EDIT: Oops, just saw the other thread about this. Sorry guys.

Got it for Christmas, loved it, FAR FAR better with all the extra scenes, and I thought the mouth of sauron was perfectly done.

Got the extended edition box set and I have to say that combined it's the best DVD box set ever! ROTK:EE did add a few things that I enjoyed, but I felt some of the scenes were added back in just for the sake of it and didnt really add anything to the story. What I did enjoy though:

Witchking meets Gandalf.
Sarumans inclusion.
The Mouth of Sauron.
The extra Mt. Doom stuff with Frodo and Gammers dressed as Orcs.

I'd heard a lot of moaning about how the Frodo/Sam Orc scene was unrealistic prior to getting the DVD, and I honestly had no idea what they were talking about when I saw it. I thought it was perfectly done.

Mouth of Sauron was awesome, Gandalf versus the Witchking was awesome, Sarumans stuff was awesome, hell...it was all pretty awesome. ROTK was the one film that really felt rushed to me. ROTK:EE is just so, so, so, so, so, SO, SO much better than the theatrical release.

basically everything he just said :)

I have all three too. I personally dont think any of the EE scenes in ROTK were out of place, infact they helped clear up allot of confusion. I only wish they'd put in old Tom Bombadil and had Sam, Frodo, Merry and Pipin go home to save it from the evil men. Still, fantastic films, loved every second (except the end of ROTK which did drag on alittle too long :p)

Edit : I'm glad they put in the Orc marching, its true to the book and you could see it in the mirror when frodo looks into the water in the first film.

/me hugs my LOTR EE Trilogy..
Meh so do I, so should anyone who considers themselves a real fan of those films :)

Waited all these years to have all three and they do look cool on the shelf now.

ROTK was probably the one were the extended scenes were best justified. and of course, it was the best of the three. Only one I didn't managed to sleep while watching the EE.

I still really like The Two Towers.. especially the bit where the Ents go to war.. I admit the whole scene gets me a bit tearful

Anyone laugh and I will ban them, clear!? :p

The first one sets things up perfectly though. But the Elvish bit is a tad boring.

I got all three of them too and I love them. Although Legolas should have gotten pretty drunk. When the mirkwood elves are having a party in Bilbo, they all get quite sloshed.

I hope they make The Hobbit. Thats such a great varied story, i just hope its done. It'll really embellish the LOTR story with the ring n'all.

I bought the ROTK special edition today, and i watched the other special editions this week as well, to prepare :P Can't wait to watch it- i mean... 48 minutes! pwhoar!

Shit, you should try watching the full credits :P

There's at least 5 minutes of fan club entries.

Bah.. watch em all in a row, Fellowship, Two Towers, RotK. EE versions, + credits.

Dare ya ;)

I've bought ROTK: EE about a week ago. I love all the new and extended scenes, especially the Mouth of Sauron scene. The Saruman scene is also good, and so was the Gandalf-Witchking scene. It would've been nice if they were in the Theatrical Version.

There are hours and hours of documentaries (I've watched them all ;) ) They're awesome. It's really amazing to see the amount of work and effort that's required to make a movie of LOTR-scale. It's interesting how they made the Mouth of Sauron - originally, it was going to have a vertical mouth :O . Miranda Otto's and David Wenham's thoughts about riding the horses in ROTK are pretty funny.

And to sum everything up - it's a great movie! Definitely my personal favourite.

i havent been able to pick it up yet, but it sounds like the new scenes really add to the movie. i know that the new scenes in the two towers made it a much better film in my opinion.

Definately - the same for the first too.

The extended versions are considerably better than the originals.

*Hugs his RotK-EE with Minas Tirith statuette and Howard Shore DVD*. :E

Also on the list:

All Tarentino films

The 'Of The Dead' trilogy

Star Wars :x

:D

You going to stay up for a week or something?

Watched first 2 hours of the EE so far, sarumans bit was good but how did they not include that in the theatrical? Did they say anything about it? I can't remember....

I just watched the easter-eggs. They were even more funny this time, and there were two of them, while it only was one on each in the other two.
