The promised immortality

So, what's this thing with the immortality Dr.Breen is offering? Are the basic combine immortal at home when they're not getting their ass wooped by The Free Man? Are the stalkers immortal slaves? What has reproduction and instincts got to do with all this?

Two possibilities...

One, those converted by the Combine achieve a level of "immortality" through biomechanical augmentation.

or

Two, Breen is running a line of bs propaganda, trying to give the citizenry an excuse as to why the Combine has supressed reproduction.

Well its definatley true, if we go to thier universe we becoem immortal...simply because theres evidence in lines that were taken from the game and the fact that the combine have stopped us humans re producing...why else would we need more humans if the rest are to become immortal?

Most Combine forces are clones. The Combine choose the dominate species of the planet they invade and absorb that species into it's armies. Re-production is denied, because it's just more free thinking humans who hate the Combine. Where as their Clones are born loyal.

The immortality is obviously achieved via technological augmentation. The Combine themselves depend on their technology to live. And look at the Stalkers. They lack most of their vital organs yet still live. The Combine technology is indeed powerful.

yeah thats true, Dr. Breen mentioned some crap about host bodies near the very end of the game

I think he was talking about host bodies so he could go to the combine homeworld. If you remember when breen is about to teleport you can see a blurry sky with a bunch of buildings I think that's the world he's going to and in his human state he couldn't survive that world. Their probably trying to convert earth so the combine can survive there.

It's also possible they meant immortality for the species as a whole, rather than its individual members... could be anything from controlling humanity and stopping us destroying ourselves, or protecting us from things that are actually worse than the Combine
