Since when was the AK-47 a staple of the zombie genre?

I always thought the staple firearm of the zombie genre was the 12 bore shotgun. Owing to the fact that most zombie films are about civilians and generally shotguns and handguns are more prevelent than military grade full-automatic assault rifles.

To be honest, I thought the weapons in L4D nailed variety pretty well and so I'm somewhat against all these new guns being put it. The Pistol-Shotgun-Machinegun-Scoped Rifle worked very well for L4D and I think adding a million and one variations on the theme wont add that much to the game. Gun (and weapon porn in general) doesn't fit in well with the theme. I mean honestly, an FN SCAR? A weapon used exclusivly by US Special Forces? At least L4D's M16 and Uzi had some grounding in what someone might reasonably be able to aquire in such an event but crap like that is just plain retarted. Next we'll see OICWs and hand held miniguns!

Anyway, it certainly looks like its adding quite a bit. Which although it does make me feel like I payed £20 for a proof of concept with L4D, is quite interesting.
 
There is no such thing as the 'zombie genre', and if there was, the AK-47 would not be a 'staple' of it.

That first video the link sends us to is actually kind of unique as you see Doug and Chet both talking specifically to the boycotters. Transcription:

"Yeah, we have a group of people that we still need to convince, but we think we have a great plan to win those folks over, through actions, not words, we intend to prove we've got good stuff coming for Left 4 Dead 1, we've got good stuff coming for Left 4 Dead 2."

Don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against the PS3, but I couldn't help but laugh at Chet and Doug's responses to questions of whether L4D2 is being produced on PS3. Doug said something like "360 - 96/100. PC - 96/100. PS3 - 86/100. Not acceptable (laughs)" Fair dues, fair dues. I like a perfectionist attitude.
 
I personally think the model is ugly. Everything else except the neck and head is fine.
 
I'm confused, didn't they say they were dumping the Hunter wearing the hoodie, or was that just for The Parish campaign?
Also, the Uzi has a silencer why? Is it an optional or unlockable attachment?
I'm counting 3 new guns, 2 new round types. Did I miss anything else, firearm wise?

Well, there are a couple different pistols, I read a grenade launcher somewhere, the AK, and the new sniper rifle. I know I'm missing something, but the weapons that aren't completely new are variations on the originals I think.
 
They said in an interview that existing weapons will have multiple examples, so you still get an M16 but you also get an Ak47 plus some other thing I dont know the name of, multiple shotguns and pistols to, the Uzi with a silencer is just a different SMG but it fills the same purpose.

MAC-10 (what you're calling the uzi, may be the smaller MAC-11), FN SCAR-L, AK-type rifle, SIG P226, Glock 19, SPAS-12, some form of H&K long rifle (likley a G3SG1 or HK91) and a Remmington M870 from the videoes seen thus far.
 
People who find it wierd when you awnser a reasonable question accuratley creep me out.
 
Right, thanks for that. I've only seen a regular pistol/glock combo so far, d'you think there's more?

And a grenade launcher sounds fun, as well as the exploding rounds. D'you only get a cartridge worth of that round type, or does it replace all your shots?
