Time for upgrade again!

Well, this time, since I bought a nvidia 5600 last time Hl2 was around, I lost $200 .. *LOEL OMGHF LOEK AT THAT NOEB!!!!!!1111* yeah, I agree!

And since this year (if truly *begging to God that hl2 comes* it comes) I shall buy a new pice a crap..

And this time I have quited be a NVIDIA FANBOY and I love ATi (but still have feelings for nvidia ;( ) so I shall buy a ATi card..

And here's the deal. My economy is highly restricted to $150 - $200 and I want a card that can give me the blow-away-gfx from HL2.

So wich card shall I choose?

Radeon 9600XT or 9800PRO?

Since 9600XT costs around $160 and a 9800PRO costs $220 I am a bit confused..

The machines at E3 had 9800PRO, but HL2 will be included in the 9600XT, so the XT card must be as good as the 9800PRO..

Well. Just one of 9800PRO and 9600XT i should get..

The 9800 Pro is the better card. The 9600XT suffers from lower memory and core clocks, which is why it is cheaper. If you had to choose between the two in order to get the best graphics at a better frame rate, the 9800 Pro is what you want.

9600XT started as a 200$ card.
9800Pro started as a 400$ card...

HL2 has been said to be aimed at the 9600pro but that is minimum playability with full DX9 effects.

Personally, I would go with a 9800pro. Or wait and see what 200$ card comes out of the X800/6800 series.
Or wait until HL2 is released...

No, I bet PCI-Express will cause price increases for AGP cards. Simple supply and demand. ATI and Nvidia will be pushing PCI-Express which means that less production capacity will be given to AGP cards. At the same time, everybody will still want to upgrade with an AGP card creating a shortage which causes a price increase. Simple economics. My theory is based on the idea of a rapid transition to PCI-Express (which seems to be happening).

[Edit]: I would wait until something is known about the next generation of middle class graphics cards.

PLZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a FX5600XT, and I am upgrading from that to a X800 Pro so I can get DX9 features and will hold me off for a long time, I only upgrade like once a year, so it should be good. Plus the X800 Pro is worth the money, from what I am upgrading from.

:O 9800 Pro is good enough for most games out now and probably be good until 1-2 years from now, well by my standards and speculation. If you're not a hardcore junkie who HAS to have the best, 9800 Pro @ $220 is the best deal for now i'd say.
