This isnt important I just thought it was really cool. On the Dr.Kliner Vid right after the Strider blasts through the wall have you ever actually looked at the hole it makes? Its not like in HL1 where it would just be a big jagged shape or somthing. The hole the strider blasts out of the wall has all of the individual bricks sticking out of the sides. Its the little things like that I cant wait to explore.........and that will lead to making Valve the rulers of all gamming. Or just really rich.

Yeah it does look amazing... The animation on what crashes through the wall is amazing too, the way it moves looks so realistic.

yup
would the animation be scripted?

The explosion was scripted, but how the bricks fell and stuff wasnt, so the action of blowing up the wall was the only scripted thing, valve said they dont want it to be where everything is destructible.

Well, it depends what you call scripted. It is scripted in the sense that Valve made that section of the wall destructable and sent two striders to destroy it. But the actual explosion/animation was not.

Well, it could be that you make a map as absolutely realistic as possible, with destructing walls, roofs falling in, tvs exploding, cats jumping through windows....But if it's going to be that realistic, then also it should have realistic constraints on what the character can carry around - you got a bazooka? You get to carry three rounds, so better save them for the tanks instead of the neighbor's wall. Or a few pounds of C4.
So you see, having a city that is completely destructable, countering that with realistic limits on the character (and vehicles w/weapons on the map) would work out very well, imho.

The city isnt completely destrutable, its like the old hl where only some walls are destructable.

um yeah scene is good other then if it were realistic you would have brick fragments taking your head off or knocking you out.

Gordon wears the HEV suit for a reason, you know.

does this mean if they designated a block of the wall destructable, the explosions could unfold differently every time?

yeah, probably.

I suppose the answer is yes, since the physics are calculated dynamically. However it happens so fast that you will not see the difference from one time to another.
