It's Dreamcast's tenth birthday today! Happy birthday, best console ever created!

Might have to pull mine out tonight and give it a spin. :(

I never had the chance to play a Dreamcast. :(

I was never really big into consoles.

Never played a dreamcast either. I have played a sega saturn though. Once or twice. For me it was pretty much Atari, Commodore 64(loved my commodore 64 to death), NES, SNES, Sega CD, Nintendo 64, and Playstation. Very rarely did I use my cousins Nintendo Gameboys.

Never owned a DC but I wanted to, very much so, back in the day. It seemed like it had lots of great games and loads of potential.

I'm given to understand that it could have held its own for a lot longer against the PS2 if Sega hadn't mismanaged it so.

I had a NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PSone, and a GBC.

They were all my brother's or sister's but I played them to death until I got drawn into the world of PC gaming, didn't play my Playstation that much because of that reason really.

I love this thread. The Dreamcast was the best console ever. I will never forget the great times I had with mine and the great times I still continue to have with it. I also love that my 9/9/99 launch console still works perfectly after all these years of play.

Back before planned obsolescence of consoles!

Back in the days when a gaming system could survive a nuclear holocaust and you could rise from the ashes of Armageddon and give it a furious blow and have everything work properly again!

Sorry for noob question, but why is the Dreamcast great?
It just looks like a mix of a N64 and a PSX rip-off and from what i've heard there aren't any decent games for it.

Quoted for truth.

Are there any good Sega Dreamcast-emulators out there?

I owned two dreamcasts over the years, one at launch that burned out its disc laser, and one that still works.

Its all about Shenmue for me!

Same, sadly one of my Shenmue 2 discs have been scratched so badly that it can't be read by the dreamcast :'(

I got the XB1 vers, but it's just not the same with the English voiceovers >.<

I don't want to face the wrath of the internets (specially not darkside) but yeah why was it so great?

I've never owned a Dreamcast nor have I ever played one.

Shit yeah I've been playing Street Fighter 3 third strike, gotta beat it with all chars to get Gill! Also rediscovered DOA2.

Rest easy, DC. We were well met.

Dead things don't have birthdays. And it's not like it died some sort of honorary death... it was terrible. Look no further than that brick of a controller.

Thoughts of long evenings spent with Power Stone, Sonic Adventures, Skies of Arcadia and Get Grind Radio linger in my mind today. Here's to you, Dreamcast. We hardly knew ye.

Buying a DC was one of the worst purchases I ever made, well, that my parents ever made for me.

controller was wacky but from what I saw of games was decent

The DC is very much alive, the last game released for it came out only a couple of months ago and a new release is scheduled for October.

Dreamcast was pretty fun, but to say it was the best console ever? Come on now.

I still have 2 Dreamcasts, a bunch of games, 2 keyboards, a VGA Adapter, a few controllers and a dozen memory cards. 1 Dreamcast works still, other is for scrap parts.

More powerful than the PS2, even. After the Dreamcast, consoles died IMO. I will never care about or own a new console.

The controller was very similar in look and feel to the Xbox360, and there is a reason for that (It was good) so stop being ignorant, people.

Heh I remember long before I got one I played it at the mall. I was retarded and couldn't figure out how I was supposed to hold the controller T_T vmu slot confused me.

I was going to skip the Dreamcast and just wait and go from the PS1 to the PS2, but my friend had one and I was kinda blown away by the graphics and the amount of quality games. So I got one and had many many many good times.

Once the PS2 came out, I ended up getting one, and I was furious when I saw how horrible and muddy the textures looked after all the bullshit hype and spending so much money on it. What a piece of shit.

you where born whitout fingers didnt you? and use a special mechanisn to use controllers dont you?

Sega Bass Fishing remains one of the best games ever made. Ha that game was amazing. I was sad when I got too good at it and it was no longer a challenge.

I don't understand what you mean.

I never had a problem controlling anything except sometimes my hands would get so sweaty from playing so much that it would slip off the analog stick. Then I realized when I got a second controller that it was because I had worn off the little raised grip bumps from playing too much.

The DC controllers were excellent predecessors to the godly Xbox 360 contollers. Not a bad word about them!
