Probably because more casual gamers have GTA:SA. Since VGA is done by votes (which I heard you could do more than once), popularity beats out quality. Don't really have a problem with GTA, just didn't love it.

Exactly what ShadowFox said. Although Half-Life 2 is God, San Andreas is a Saint. My friend has it, and it is awesome.
But yeah, the VGAs were mostly just for publicity for Spike TV.

because GTA SA kicks ass, its the best game ever to grace consoles, and takes 5 times longer to beat then Half Life 2. oh yeah and GTA SA actually made its release day.

I hate GTA.. it was fun to go around and kill people and take cars for a while but then thats all there was to it.. got way too boring way too fast. Half-Life 2 blows GTA:SA to hell.

Length and the day it's released have NOTHING to do with the games quality.

FFS. They are two different games!

What if I compared something like MYST 4 to HL2? Oh, MYST 4 takes YEARS to beat! It must be TWENTY TIMES BETTER!!!

A longer game dose not make for a better one, neither dose hitting your projected release date. Yes I did enjoy GTA:SA the first time I played it but burnt out the second getting all gold at the driving school for the crappy hot knife (so not worth the busted blood vessals). And oh what fun, spend 30 grand tricking out your car and hit the Nos for the first time and then finding a new car, or being to scard to drive the damn thing.

The Fact that HL² is only about 20 hours worth of game play means I'm more likely to play it again, and again.

GTA:SA is an amazing game, thats why it beat HL2. Not to say HL2 is bad, but San Andreas is better than all previous GTAs combined. Great Story, voice acting, and so many mini games and it has the biggest most detail map with no load times I have seen.

just think the fact that millions of PS2 were sell,and the major part bought GTA:SA
also consider that the major part of HL2 owners are PC that they think they are the most mature people in the world and think that that awards are stupid and didnt vote

IMO GTA:SA is a very good game
