UK gamers who want a PS3

yeh, and i guess in au we'll get another cost increase on top of that, awesome sony, i'm so pre-ordering one.

If people really want it, they'll buy it. If not, they'll either wait for a price drop or get a different system now. Its definitely expensive and truly great games won't be out for it til next year, so adopting this one early is imho a bad move. Plus, by waiting, perhaps some of the bugs can be worked out of the system before you get your hands on one. If the Wii is $199 though, early adopting is looking pretty good there....

i really wanted it until they announced the price, now i really don't want it.

the first generation of any hardware is actually the best to have.

Play games and films? My PS2 does that, my Xbox does that, my PC does that, my PSP does that.

425 pounds ? :/

high end graphics card with DX10 + Shader 4 + 1GB of memory going to cost 399 pounds in the first month. Sony = loser.

Sony claims a lot of things.

The ps3 is definatly going to be one of the consoles that i'm waiting for a severe price drop in .. don't care how long i have to wait .. however the Wii is one i'll get as soon as its released :P

Some doom and gloom from the guy who started the bandwagon.

Some quotes from around teh net. Everyone point and laugh:
According to Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey, the costs associated with PlayStation 3 development are another reason for concern from third-party publishers. "Developing for Sony's platform is incrementally more complex than what you're looking at for Microsoft or Nintendo," said Hickey, noting that development costs on PlayStation 3 titles could reach the region of $25 million.
In the US and Australia next year Microsoft will most probably have taken the #1 gaming console slot and more than 50% of the global console gaming market. During the past 6 months Sony have delivered a dream run for Microsoft by failing to deliver the PS3 to market and as more people trial the XBox the more they will stay with it.
THQ CEO Brian Farrell feels that the lacklustre launch line-up could be attributed to the risks involved in developing on the PS3, stating that "It was too risky to do it." He was referring to the company's The Sopranos game which is coming to PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, also adding that it made "no sense" to bring the game to the PlayStation 3.
Bloomberg is reporting that Sony’s PlayStation 3 is likely to make its November launch with less-than-thrilling titles since the company hasn’t given game developers enough information to actually create decent titles.
"A lot of developers have not gotten the [PS3 development] kits," Sega of America president Simon Jeffery told Bloomberg. "There certainly will not be a lot of titles available [at launch]."

There is no way in hell I'm going to blow seven hundred and tax so I can play Metal Gear and Sonic. I don't know. The Wii looks interesting, but I think I'm going to become PC only for this generation until prices drop and something screams must have to me.

I already pre-ordered mine a couple of days after e3, the existimated price is £420. I don't mind if it will cost that much, I will pay it. But the guy in Gamestation did say they have very little information to offer at the moment, the price is just a high estimate so people can not turn around and say they do not wish to pay a higher amount for the console.

I'm just going to buy a new dx 10 gfx card and maybe a nintendo wii. Could get both for the price of a ps3

No you can't. a dx 10 will cost the same as a ps3 new or more.

You're right, they will probably cost 499-599 at launch, which is about the same as a ps3. Maybe I'll wait for price drops on the cards b4 I buy.

That much for a gfx card? Shit. I wish I knew more about PC specs and such :P

Might be buying a car soon, I really want a ps3 but I might have to settle with something cheaper.

Hey how much did the ps2 cost in the UK on it's launch, cause the ps2's price in holland was 1200 guldens, that's toughly 600,- euro's and it stayed like that for a year. I just want to know what it was in brittain and what it was in the rest of the world.

It's still retarded to have to pay so much more for a PS3. For the price that Sony might sell the ps3 at in the UK, i would just order one from the US and save a few bucks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the PS3's gonna be region free?

Yup, well at least for the games department. Although some TV's might have conflicts running say PAL games on NTSC TV's but I think the new HDTV's would render that problem obsolete. Movies on the other hand... the MPAA would never allow this to happen.

what exactly are the launch titles for ps3? the only ones i know are motostorm and warhawk, i presume EA Sports will lash out the annual sports game releases but what else? appears rather unimpressive, another reason for myself to wait a year or so to pick up my ps3, MGS4 and Assassin's Creed wont be out till then and they're the major games i'm looking out for.

MGS4 is the only thing I've seen from the PS3, that I have any interest in, so I'm definitely not paying £425 (2 xbox 360 cores)

Well, if and when I ever get a PS3, it's gonna be about the games. I could care less about watching movies on it. I already live in the US, so I don't have to worry about having to possibly pay more...

Exactly my thoughts. Who cares if the launch sucks? Most launches have crap games anyway (I am looking at you 360/PS2/XBox). Its just not worth it to me to pick up a system just to have it. The big big games are out next year anyway and by then getting my hands on a system should be relatively easy, so why get one so early?

I think it was roughly £200

Well that can't be more then 300,- euro's. So it seems the Dutch will get even more screwed.

And this is one of the things I am most excited about! Now I can import whatever games I want from different regions and not have to go through the perils and hassle of modding the box. Too bad it won't read older discs from all regions. There are a ton of current gen games I would love to play from Japan/EU...;(

DO you have a ps2. Cause if you do you can just buy swap magic for 30,- .It doesn't require you to open up the ps2, so it's save and your warrenty will still work.

According to this page, the ps2 launch price was 299 (dollars and pounds) so were getting screwed a bit less this time around. *

*= In terms of price conversion atleast.

The only reason PS3 costs so much is because of Blueray, not to mention they are having a globel release. The increase of price in Europe will sell less systems until they can up production, reduce the price and keep shipping to europe. But lets face it, there prioty will be Japan and America first.

Also, if the PS3 is multi region in games, this will be a major factor of the price increase in different locations of the world. Which is stupid really because it only incourages more importing.
