Whats an underrated movie that you think is great and deserves more recognition then what it got when it was released?

The Hudsucker Proxy

I just saw this on ifc the other day and completely forgot how wonderful this film truely is. This movie was so well directed and written that I find it really hard to believe that it was passed up in the box office when it was out in 1994. It was a clever spin on Citizen Kane with comedic satire, but more upbeat. I would consider it my most favorite in Joel Coen movies, Big Lebowski coming in second. Maybe its like an underground cult classic because I rarely hear about it from people.

Good call, The Hudsucker Proxy is great fun. I wouldn't rate it above The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Miller's Crossing, O Brother etc, but still have a soft spot for it. It's just such a charming movie.

I'll add another gem from the Coen Brothers - Barton Fink. It's one of my favourite movies, excellent in every way, and definately underrated. Up there with their best work.

Jackie Brown. I mean yeah, it's Tarantino's "worst" film, but it's still one of the better Crime movies out there.

Oh, and The Proposition was a really great Western that no one saw.

I have to agree with O Brother. It's such a great movie.

Road to Perdition

Struggles because it's in a genre that has two of the best movies of all time (supposedly): The Godfather, Goodfellas. But this film is fantastic. It is a solid example of the genre and is made by one of my favourite directors. I love the camera work too. Beautiful.

Brotherhood of the Wolf

The CGI might have been atrocious but otherwise this is one of my favorite movies.
