"... you have to see it for yourself." -Morpheus

Yes. At last.

A game with the power to render the fantastic world of The Matrix in it's glory. I found Half-Life 2 not only to have the technical strength and flexibility but also the texture bank and visual definition fitting the ones of The Matrix movies.

For the past week, I've been working on a CS:S map featuring some of the most memorable moments of The Matrix.

Here are some "WORK IN PROGRESS" screenshots of different rooms:

GOVERNMENT LOBBY:
When fighting against CT, you really feel like you're in the movie against the SWAT team.
Of course, I had to include the metal detector...
de_thematrix1.jpg

Everything that is destroyed in the movie can be here.
de_thematrix2.jpg

THE DOJO:
One of the bomb sites.
I'm thinking of putting a low grav trigger here so we can fight in the air at will and stand on beams...etc. Knife fights you said?
de_thematrix3.jpg

BACKDOORS:
That are used to travel from rooms to rooms.
de_thematrix4.jpg

THE OFFICE:
The other bomb site.
Many hiding spots.
Better stay low if you don't want a bullet in the head.
de_thematrix5.jpg

INTERROGATION ROOM:
Not a major room in itself, it's just there because it's memorable and easy to include.
A very well positioned room in The Office.

As I said, all you see here is "WORK IN PROGRESS"! So all this will be more detailed and needs tweaking.

As you probably remember, all these rooms aren't directly connected in the movies. Well, they will be connected by backdoor corridors and telephone cabins teleports in this map. Some changes will be made to the rooms so it's more suitable for CS:S too.

A BETA version will be available soon so you can give me your inputs on the map.

You might feel like you are stumbling down the rabbit hole right now but it's ok. Take the RED pill and wait patiently. More information and screenshots will follow very soon along with the BETA.

YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!

Keep up the MRFRKING excellent work!

Looks damn awesome, but might I suggest making the concrete pillars not wavy like that? displacements would probably work best there, combined with layers of func_breakables.

HOLY SHIT!!! MAN THAT'S AWESOME, CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY IT, PLEASE KEEP US INFORMED!!! timeframe, when it might be done???

Looks totally amazing. Will definately play the beta.

Certainly reminds me of The Specialists.

And that's a good thing.

looks great but i would expect a shit load of camping outside doors and such

This looks great. Looking forward to playing this one :D

Dude, backdoors looks so ****ing real

EDIT : *Looks at backdoors again*
*splurges*

Looks very cool, cant wait for the Beta

Cool. The dojo is not wide enough, though, I think.

Here, I made you a cheap gif file :p

10 minutes work lol :D

Does the elevator in the lobby make the funny 'ding!' noise? :D

I lmao in the matrix 1 when I heard that subtle 'ding!' after the firefight :)

Thanks for your comments folks!

Fictious: Unless you can make square shaped displacement objects, I'd have to slap 4 displacement objects back to back for each pillar which would take A LOT more polys than what I got right now. I'll tweak the appearance of the pillars to get a better result.

Stinger: dunno, maybe the field of view in-game makes it look small.

Beerdude: hehe well done!

The Brick: I thought about that, but it could be a problem when you want to move around undetected. People would hear the "ding" then run for the elevator to kill you. But I thought of making it possible to call the elevator then leave at the last second so you send an empty elevator as a decoy. I'll look into that. :)

Backdoors: well, this is a simple backdoor corridor to show you guys I found the textures/lighting to recreate it. :) They will be more complex and I'll find a way to prevent camping there.

More?

Quality material, i bet that it took a long time to make. I CANT wait till it comes out :)

I'm still absolutely amazed about the backdoors. Looks like it's a picture :/

Moonquake your back, and that work is awesome. Heart of revolters maps for Hl2net were awesome. Gone over to the evil side of counter strike source now eh?

Yeah, wtf, it looks so real.

If this map is released, and it's optimized well performance-wise, I see this being my new favorite map. Way to go dude!

Thats awesome. But the lobby looks a little to small and cramped to me. Doesnt look like theres enough room to move around there.

HunteRKilleR: took me about a week to get to what you see on the pics. Yesterday, I worked some more on the lobby, it looks even more like in the movie.

Beerdude: I actually had a backdoor corridor that looked infinite, problem is, the lighting was all messed up at some point, and anyways, I needed to used them to connect the different rooms, can't be infinite in this case. But the attention was put on making it look like in the movie as much as possible. You will see more actually, because in the movie, all you see is straight corridors. In this map, they will be more complex: turn left, turn right, split, maybe even up and down. :)

Hectic Glenn: ahah, the dark side... I like both CS:S and DM. If I were a Jedi, I'd be on the grey side of the Force. :)

Malfunction: hope it will be a favorite for you and many others! :)

Slip777: the in-game perspective makes it look like all the rooms are smaller. Just like through the passenger mirror of a car: objects are "bigger" than they appear. :) But at the same time, I had to make slight changes so that people could move around easily.

More screenshots to come soon.

Yeah, seriously, ding noise for the win. That'd be really funny, lots of fighting in the lobby when all of a sudden, the T with the bomb rides the elevator down and as soon as it opens you hear, ding, and all the players in the lobby turn and look, then obliterate him/her. Can't wait.

Naah, make the elevator a bomb site, and when the bomb is about to explode, the elevator should fall down and on the 'ding!', the bomb should explode :D

You do ofcourse know that theres already a small matrix lobby map right? Or is that your map?

Your stuff looks cool though gogogo! :D
Maybe make the interrogation room a bit bigger?

the texture and brush work on this is simply stunning! i cant wait to play this, as the first matrix movie was one of my favorite movies of all time, its a shame the series was marred by the crappy second and third installations (imho)

I wasn't aware of a lobby map for CS:S. Got a link?

The lobby changed quite a bit visually since the screenshots. It's now even more like in the movie.

MQ

For next screenshots, I'll wait 'till I got visual changes for most of the rooms.

You guys are gonna love it... :)
