Wanting to start up BF2 again.

What all do I need? Is it highly reccomended I buy the special forces expansion? Will I not be able to be on servers with it installed, if I don't?

Consider this... the last time I heavily played was during the demo, and shortly after release, with the people who played then.

I don't own SF so I can't help you out there, but personally I'd rather wait until EA releases a culmination pack that has all the expansions.

As of now server's are either SF or Vanilla only I believe, since you have to exit BF2 and start SF seperate to play on SF servers (correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm assuming you don't actually own BF2 yet?

I used to be pretty damn good back in the demo/early release days. But I havent played in so long, my score is crap, and my skills have likely deteriorated to hell.

Specail forces allows you a couple unlocks in regular game-play that people who spend FIFTY DOLLARS can't acess - namely the flash-bangs & F2000. That's a lame marketing scheme in my opinion. I've "hi-jacked" the F2000 a couple times & it's a nice rifle (not a ton better, but still).

I'm just getting back into BF2 now I bought a new copy, but erm - does the 1.12 patch ruin anyone elses performance? I tested it out I can run 1.0 fine at 1280x1024 at medium/high settings, after I install 1.12 I have to play low/medium and even then it stutters like hell.

....interesting.... I might have to try reverting baqck to 1.0 & seeing how it plays.

Well after snooping about Total BF2 apparently the 1.12 patch does bugger up some peoples performance. I think I'm just going to carry on playing on 1.0 servers till 1.2 arrives.

But that means you can't play with the majority of HL2.netters

Don't get SF. Total waste of money. I think the booster packs are going to be much more worthwhile and better.

Personally, I like SF. I don't have many problems with it if I disable most background processes. I've gotten around 20+ hours out of it, which is worth it IMO.
