I've been recently rewatching the two seasons of Shadow Raiders, a CGI series I hold childhood memories of. Well, as it is with childhood memories, they tend to be a bit rose-tinted, but in this case, not so much. Sure, the first episodes' CGI quality can be bad (can't blame it, though, given the late 90s hardware), but the voicework, script and characters more than make up for it.
Yes, it's based on a toyline, but I didn't feel not one bit of that in the episodes themselves. Sure, the premise is kind of absurd and the Cluster's backstory is not elaborated upon, but within this outlandish premise rests a very solid story, mixing various genres and touching upon some interesting subjects. Plus, the main cast of characters is a well written bunch that evolves and breaks cliches typical for animations aimed at kids.
Kids. This was supposedly the target audience for this series, but the more I watch, the more I'm convinced they are about the last group that'd be best suited for watching. For one, most would not appreciate the quality of the writing and characters. Two, the show deals with some heavy stuff - for M'Atra's sake, it opens up with a planetary genocide.
This entire rambling is just an elaborate excuse for two questions:
1. Any other Shadow Raiders fans?
2. Is King Cryos the best cartoon character in the history of animation?
