I'm guessing you know this from the raising the bar book, right? Damn need to get a copy of that. Well thanks for the info.

IIRC they did mention the synths in RTB, but I don't have my copy with me.

I'll go look in my RTB. I don't think it said much.. we just know these things here.
...Of course... the one day I need it, I lose it. Typical.

They're just two otherwise unused enemies that Valve had lying around and stuck into the ride for some eye-candy. Don't expect to be fighting them.

We might see them now that Combine reinforcements are coming in. To be honest, I'd think the Crab synth (so named because that's what the model is named) would be more effective than Striders in the forest, or hell even in a city -- a lot harder to hit 3 streets away...

The only problem with that is that the synth would also not be able to see the player, therefor making the gameplay ridiculously tedious.

Crabs are awesome, they have freaking miniguns in their body.

And they also appear to charge at players guard-style. Too bad.

It kills me to see the different critters that Valve cooks up to either be cut entirely or exist solely in cameos. I know they may not have worked out that well in gameplay tests, for example, but they sure look like fun.

Why's that?

I dont even think thats that, if theyre synths, theres definetly a scope modification somewhere.

OR

There could be someone with a pair of special binoculars which tell the height and distance who tells the synth so. But that would be ridicilous, as they would just install the readings fromt he binoculars into the synth :\

Why wouldn't it see the player?? You would find these guys with other soldiers in more open areas.

Or maybe a strider would report rebels locations to them and the crab synths just ambush the locations.

Like scripted enemies.
