Well I've been a member for four and a half years now, and I was just starting highschool. I remember being pumped up for HL2, thinking it was going to be this grand masterpiece. I also remember starting HL2 mods, when I had no experience whatsoever, and then trying to convince people it would be the best mod ever. I remember when Munro used to actually post here. I also remember when the sites textures were orange. Anyone else remember anything going on back in the day, or when you first joined, what was happening in your life?

Just beat Episode 1 and was really bored during a day off of school I think.

I was starting my second year of College. It was a few months ago. :|

I think I had just gotten HL2 and was looking for people to share the awesome with.

I think I was 14 at the time, I needed to know some info on Steam because I was completely new to it, so Kouler told me to register here and ask.

And yeah, I steadily started to come back.

...More and more...

Then I started reporting every single post that was out of line...

Then begged to be a mod...

...>_>...

I was waiting for more information about HL2 to be released, so I came here to check... damn, i've been here a long ass time.

I had a theory regarding the arctic base we saw in Episode 1, so I joined after a few months of lurking.

*Grabs wallet and runs off to find Munro*

;)

I was doing my apprentiship at the time, back when we belived the 30th Sept was going to be a magical day :)

I'd just left high school the year prior and was doing an advanced computer course (which I also ended up flunking). Was sitting on the lab computers, came across the first bit of news about HL2's announcement and got super hyped for it. This site was the first search result when I started looking for more info, so I signed up and started rabidly speculating. :P

Source code leak just happened, I was going into high school

No clue how I got here. I think I saw the HL2 Bink videos and was so pumped I came on here and just... Stayed.

Super excited about hl2, was in first year of highschool.

Oh god, i remember those bink videos. The G-Man video.... at the time, the graphics were awesome...and still are.

I think it was around the time that the source code was stolen. I was looking for a place to learn more about the incident and found this shithole.

jkjk

I was starting my first year of wrestling back in the eight grade.

Started visiting when I was trying to find info on Half-Life 2. I had just installed a 9800 Pro in my aging HP machine. Now that I had a machine that could handle the games of the times, I was trying to catch up. Had chanced a glance in a gaming magazine mentioning the release of HL2.net, which thusly brought me here.

I quickly found the Hardware/Software board, and soon became intrigued with building my own PC.

I'd come home every other day, with almost no energy left in my body, and spend my time browsing the Hardware board, trying to piece together my dream computer, despite the fact that I currently had no money to build said computer.

3 years later and now i'm trying to source a brand new power supply for that computer. Actually considering overhauling the damned thing already as the 939 based system, aside from the video card, is starting to get a tad bit dated.

I... don't want to talk about it. :o

I was however anticipating HL2.net so that's why I joined.

hyping my face off halfway through my first year of high school

Twas shortly before my 15th birthday. Sophomore in HS.

I was a freshman in High School and I had gotten a nice computer for Christmas 2003, so once I saw HL2, I was really excited about it. I had never played the original Half-Life, so I bought it and played all the way through. Originally, I thought it was mindless and stupid, but I later began to appreciate it after thinking about the story and such. So then I joined this site because I was really excited about the game. I was also really excited to find out what kind of person I'd become by the time I was a high school senior. I was completely care free and laid back, had no job to worry about, no messy school scheduling, nothing. Just school, motocross, friends, and having fun. Now I'm a college freshman, I work 5 days a week from 9AM to 7PM or later, and I go to a community college where I know almost nobody. All of my high school friends are away and I don't see them hardly at all.

Speaking of this, can we go back to when I joined?

Wow I just realized I was 14 when I joined this site. I'm 18 now and will be 19 in April. Crazy.

I was gettin' ready to start my senior year in high school... wow, it's been a while, that seems ages ago.

I thought you two were being very funny until I realised you'd only joined when the game came out!

I guess I was young? 13/14. I was in school. I think I was in a transition state between only having nerdy friends and having many different varied friends. I was probably only just about beginning to finally fit in (never been good at that); I was taking a big interest in writing I believe. Ooh! I hadn't hit puberty yet. That must have been fun.

Indeed. Newbies 4evah!

I should add that HL2.net relieves a lot of boredom from my everday activities which is a sublime bonus considering I registered for the game rather than the banter.

Which is nice.

Definately. Agreed.

I was like 11 or something when I joined. :D

Actually... wait.

Eh, 13 or 12 or something, I dunno.

Was in the second class of highschool, just one year before the Matura exam and acceptance into the ranks of the UAM. I played through HL2 and wanted a community with which to share my thoughts, so I joined.

And got into lots and lots of well mannered arguments, for instance, a debate concerning the issue of superiority of the Strider against an MBT. And, of course, the silly claim that America put up a fight during the 7Hour War.

Then I met Samon, but that's a different story altogether.

I think I had just gotten HL2 and was looking for people to share the awesome with.

I believe that's basically why I joined.

I don't remember much about my life, but it probably sucked, no-one liked me, I was really depressed, and probably doing half a dozen things I regret. Had no girlfriend at the time. Anything else you want to know, or do I need to see Oprah?

A year ago or something (i was going in to highshool) because I didn't like the dutch hl2 forums I joined hl2.net :)

I'd been lurking for a couple months beforehand but got hyped and joined before it was released. I think I was just going into my first year of college.

...jesus, that's ages ago!
