I have practically the same rig as you :) Cept' my processor is an AMD Athlon XP 1700+...same amount of ram...plus an AIW 9800 Pro. I sent the following e-mail to Gabe about a month back with my system's specs to see if it would run well. Check it out for yourself...

The 9800 Pro is a great card for DX9. You should be able to run just fine.

Well, Gabe, I took your advice and coaxed my parents into getting me an All In Wonder Radeon 9800 Pro for my B-Day. What I'd like to know from you, because I've read up on you saying that Half-Life 2 takes advantage of the DX9 cards, is if the game pulls more from the DX9 cards during gameplay than it does from the CPU. Frankly, my current CPU (Athlon XP 1700+), isn't exactly in league with the rest of the pack. Will Half-Life 2 be able to function directly from my video card and system memory rather than the CPU? I only ask this because of all the reviews I've read on the Radeon 9800 cards, the consensus of the bulk of them is that when it comes to games, the performance is pretty CPU and system-bound until you start to get into higher resolutions with FSAA enabled; which is when the Radeon really starts to show itself. Is this true for Half-Life 2 as well? I'd like to think I can play the game in all its glory with a decent fps without having to get a new motherboard and processor. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Sincerely,

If you want a real precise answer, wait until September 30th when the HL2 Benchmark will be released. :)

Ooh, I should feel special, you sent that on my birthday. :) The email, that is.

Anyways, You should have 40-60 FPS, although we never know.
