even HL2 had a review a week or so before release. It seems odd to me that there isnt not even one review online. Bethesda must have made a stipulation that reviews couldnt be published before release ...kinda sucks for people who want to buy it on day one

Yea it's weird. Even though it's the ship date I'd expect a flurry of posts and some people saying they have it on other sites even. But all is quiet. It's almost like this is a phantom release.

Remember remember the 30th of September :P

yeah its strange alright.

maybe the game is actually crap

doesnt the game ship today?
yet there's no reviews posted on metacritic :/

really? I think you should type out a transcript :)

or at least gives us a summary

Yeah, this is exceptionally weird, esp. for a game that is to be the savior of the 360 right now and a serious contender for GotY 2006 for PCs! Still, I have heard/seen/read enough about it that I have no doubt in my mind that this title will in fact be absolutely great, so I am not at all concerned about buying it sans review. There must be some sort of secret non-disclosure agreement going on here somewhere or another. There's no other excuse!

Magazines already gave it reviews, and I think overall the lowest I've heard is a 93%

There are some magazine reviews - I immagine it will take a number of 24-hour days to play it enough to give a review that's even 1/2 way decent. Also, I believe they got oblivion out the door as soon as it was done - would you rather they delay the release a week so websites can review it too?

All this pessimism about oblivion is giving me a headache - it's almost here, so quit freaking out people!

who's being pessimistic? you're jumping to conclusions

oblivion is like every other game ..reviewers are sent copies of the game (or a preview build that contains most of the game) shortly after going gold ..but they have limitations as to when they can publish reviews ..the most likely explanation is that the developer/publisher wants to keep reviews under wraps till release. Unlike most games Oblivion has enough word of mouth and hype that reviews do nothing to elevate it further ..and can have a negative effect should reviewers pan the game

I'll take photos and upload after Tea
*shush smiley*

mhm...I still kinda want this game even thoe they turned it in2 a action adventure and left the RPG part out :(

impressions or a typed transcript is not against the rules, scans are

Maybe it's because the game is so huge. OXM and a PC gaming magazine (PC Gamer?) did reviews. The game is so close to coming out that reviews mean nothing to me now.

You can type up whatever you like, the score, a paragraph...whatever, but you can't post scans. It is a bannable offence. What happens to and fro pms however, I've no control of. :rolling:

heh ...somehow I dont think brail would work online

Ah well. It's just from a play test.
I'll sumarise, my mob phone is to poor quality to take pics, plus I wouldn't want bannage, I've seen it first hand and it ain't pretty, sure all the chiks dig rebels, and it's great bragging rights but..... :p

I'll just get on with it. They wrote 4 pages after being given a play test of the game.

The Lowdown:
Huge Huge World
Amazingly Beautiful to behold Incredable Goal based AI
Unmatched Freedom
Goodbye Social Life

They get to play the game, but arn't aloud to go into the 'Oblivion' whatever that is. Similar beggining to Morrowing but instead of chosing your character from scratch, it judges how you've plain so far in the opening scene and suggests a character type and skills ect.

Graphics are awesome, alot of detail, very immersive
Bethedsa has smothered liberal amounts of pretty juice and you haven't even stepped outside your cell yet.

Go's on to decsribe what you can do

The sheer scope of freedom is astounding...

Tells a long story about how the writer did a very exciting quest that he found before starting the story.

Combats been changed, arrows from your bow now rely on your shooting skill rather than stats, to determin whether it hits.

Cue lots of Pretty Screenies.

After re-reading the article I'm gonna buy it :D

Holy crap! That sounds amazing! I can't wait to get this! It does me good to hear that the AI is incredible to behold and that the pretty is slathered on liberally firsthand--and that's just in your cell! Good stuff. NWN2 has a lot of catching up to do if they want RPG of the Year! :)

For a game like Oblivion, how do you review it unless you've played it for AT LEAST a week.
Plus it's also up to the developers when they choose to open up the NDA.
