In the original Half Life, where did the crow bar come from? Was it being used by a scientist? ( I dont remember seeing a scientist holding it on the way into the test chamber) Did the Gman leave it for Gordon? Does it really matter?

Unknown. Likely a mechanical man's Crowbar. Or "maintenance man", as they are alternatively known as.

I'd say Otto-Grainer is right. In Uplink you get the crowbar near some a tool box and tool set I think, and in Decay one of the characters finds their crowbar wedged between some gears in a lift mechanism.

I would say the crowbar is one of my favorite weapons in a video game. it just feels right, and every time you use it you feel like a badass. i think the final moments of the last HL game you should be using the crowbar to kill your biggest enemy. it would be fun

Heh, although I've had my time enough with the Crowbar personally. Made it all the way to Follow Freeman
using no weapon in the world but my hands and metal friend. We have quite a relationship, I kid you not.

.

Honestly, I have to say, just because we have no freedom of choice in this game series and every event is sort of set up to happen, the G-man probably set the crowbar for Gordon to find. He probably created the first crowbar ever.

Barney is a magician. He turns himself into a gnome in EP2, and let's Gordon carry him all the way to White Forest (because he's lazy).

I think a better question is where the hell the second crowbar came from. IIRC it was just lying next to a vent above the giant trash compactor. BTW, little-known fact. If you stand on top of the presses in the compactor, you can press E and drive them like the train in On A Rail.

what if Barney is the Gman?? duh duh dunnnn!!

Old theory.

How does Barney get a hold of the crowbar when he returns it to Gordon in hl2?

I wouldn't advice taking his words too literally. I believe it was just an inside-joke that wasn't meant to imply he actually found his old stash at Black Mesa and had been holding onto it since. Though I'd still like to find out where he gets these from.

"Listen, I don't have many more of these so...try not to lose this one, okay?"
