Of the three options above, which do you prefer using? We are redesigning our website and will probably be moving to different forum software. Your suggestions are welcome :)

well the new phpbb 2.2 will be uber cool when it comes soooo i vote phpbb2

vBulletin 3 is nicer, albeit more expensive I reckon.

phpBB2 is quite nice too.

If you have money vBulletin is by far the best, there is absolutely no debate needed for that.

Explain to me pleaze what the these softwares dp and what the differance is between them. And which does this forum use.

Personally, I don't really care what forum I use. As long as its about stuff I like and im interested in.

vb or php not really fussed tbh.

i dont go on a website and immediatly leave it was made with Front Page or hosted on a windows server... and i also dont care what forum technology it is, aslong as it looks nice and works.

We've been using some forum software that I wrote myself. It actually works fairly well, but its lacking a lot of the cooler features offered by the big name forums. I'd much rather put my time into developing our mod than adding features to our forum.

phpBB's price (free) makes it very attractive, but I always found it rather cumbersome to customize the layout. I've seen a lot of attractive vBulletin sites. Has anyone setup vBulletin on their own site, and is it fairly easy to customize the layout? I'm sure I can hack any board to my satisfaction, but the less time I spend on setting up the webpage the more time I'll have to work on the mod (much more important IMHO).

phpBB has pretty much everything that vBulletin has (Everything that matters as far as I can tell, and if it doesn't, it can be added easily with a 3rd party addon.), but is completely free. Except for a couple minor problems with how the templates/CSS/etc. in phpBB are done/edited, phpBB is much better then vBulletin.

No (period goes here)

Like I said, if you want to pay money for forum software you can not compare vB to anything else, it is completely out of its league. vB has pretty much every feature available in a message board and the support staff is on top of every issue. Just a couple weeks ago phpBB got a exploit that could allow anyone to control the board; when I looked at the code the mistake was so stupid it could have been easily caught. Again, vB > all other php message boards.
