I have a short attention span. I get fidgety after a while and always need to do something when idle. Twirling a pen between my fingers, drumming with my fingers, BOUNCING MY FOOT UP AND DOWN (that's irritating as hell).

However, there is one thing I do which I have never come across with anyone. If I'm bored and have to hand a pen/pencil and a piece of paper with any sort of text on it, I will sit and shade in all of the O's and 0's. After that I move onto the lower case a's; b's; d's etc etc. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's pretty much and obsessive compulsive habit, because once I start..... well jebus I can't stop. I literally have to tear this paper up to stop.

It's rather distracting. I done this when I was at school, college and also now at work. When someone asks (as they inevitably do) "what are you doing?" it's quite difficult to tell them with a straight face.

Does anyone else do this?!

tl;dr - GTFO.

I don't shade the letters, but I most definately bounce my foot up and down...like all the time :P

no, but I remember the episode of Malcolm in the Middle where the crazy kid and Malcolm's father both do it... with a set of encyclopedias.

tl;dr so I'm GettingTFO. Just kidding. :D

I used to be that way when I was younger. Tap the pencil on the desk, twirl a piece of wire or someting between my fingers, even doing stuff like drawing big circles and filling them in for the hell of it.

When we had test with multiple choice answers, I'd always make sure to fill them in perfectly and boldly every time. So boldy in fact that the paper would get thin and wet from the lead and the lead would be so thick that you could smear some on your fingers and use it for warpaint. Same when I made circles to fill in out of boredom.

Nowadays though, I'm alittle more patient, but sometimes find myself shaking my leg or something of that nature if I get too uncomfortable or bored when sitting in class.

oh shit yeah, i do that. When i'm in lectures i usually fill up pages with roses... usually between note taking

Oh yeah, I used to do it when I was younger but without the OCD-ness. Nowadays if I'm bored, I just take a nap.

I used to fill in the letters yeah. Only letters that have joined up gaps though. in high school I did that, but don't have as much of a chance now I'm all universitied.

Used to do it all the time in high school too, not so anymore.

I usually just quietly drum on the desk or bounce my foot up and down.

**** yeah I do.

I have the worst attention span. As in, not just class with pencils and that, but at home when attempting to finish an assignment due the next day I can get distracted by simply going "I wonder what wikipedia will show if I search this". 4 hours later. One more sentence done on the assignment. A huge history of searched words in wikipedia, rotten tomatoes, gamerankings etc etc.

Yes. When my hair was a bit longer I would try to pull it down and chew on it.

No luck. Shut up you fajjots. :(

I annotate my notes with doodles or interesting facts such as which famous scientists used to be prostitutes.

I go as far as making little twirly dna-ish like designs and sometimes doodles.
And I think I'll do that next semester Sam =p

Yes, I do, but it's not as obsessive as your seems to be.

you are a mental case ;)

you are a mental case ;)
I'm beginning to suspect as much. After all, I seem to be the only person who talks to themselves whilst cradling their own kness and rocking back and forth....

noes teh voices!

I require 5 peasants shading me with giant leaves at all times.

You're not the only one... :(

Nah that's normal, I do it all the time :)

I used to chew on the collar of my shirt compulsively, until mum threatened to put something nasty on them when she got them out of the wash (I took her word for pretty much everything back then, because it was usually true). Also did the foot jiggling thing... and still do. If I do it on the computer at one end of the house they'll feel it at the other end... while they're asleep.

Ha! Poll says I am not a raving lunatic! IN YOUR FACE SPACE COYOTE

polls lie ..especailly in a room full of lunatics

I call the big one bitey

I don't, but I understand the compulsion - I'm always drawing and doodling on margins, faces and human figures and spaceships and whatever takes my mind at the time. Can't curb it.

I, too, draw/doodle on the side of my paper and stuff when I'm bored.

I bounce my leg a lot. A ton of people do actually.

I think most everybody has a restless tic/habit. I doodle the hell out of my notes.

I don't but I have two traits that are OCDish. I ALWAYS bounce my leg, like you said you do. And I ALWAYS 'fold' my pants. Not like..fold pants like I work at a clothing store. Like, I grab the pants between my pointer finger and thumb, pinch, and 'roll' up or down.

Yeah, it drives me mad.

I have this odd habit of folding cats, everytime I see a cat I have to fold it.
