Upon enemies depend on the range and velocity of your guns bullet? In Half-Life1, no matter how far away, or how close, it took the exact same number of bullets from each gun to kill a enemy. 1 shot from the revolver to kill the slaves, 1 to kill headcrabs, etc. etc.

What I'm wondering is will there be a complex damage model, instead of having a prefixed damage model (Or hitboxes to make it simpler) Also, if you shoot a enemy combine in the leg will he limp? If you shoot his arm will he drop his weapon? That would be awesome

Btw, I've seen how these forums are, so please don't flame me. There is no point in it, I want this post to be clean as possible.

Has someone e-mailed gabe about this ?, cause I wanna know to :)

Yes, I emailed him about it, hasn't got awnsered (I doubt it will) yet

HA your wrong! Start up HL and count how many times it takes Barney to die by shooting him in the chest. Now try and count how many shooting in the face. There was hit location in HL1

Oh but range and velocity? I don't think so.

guys keep in mind they want to keep if FUN so distance wont count probably for most weapons besides bullets travel pretty frickin fast ooo and of course it will do large amounts of damage at any distance for things like most alien guns and the sniper rifle

In half-life 1 if you shoot someone with the shotgun at close range it will inflict more damage. Usually taking say two shots to kill a soldier.

If you try shoting someone with the shotgun at long range it takes a lot more hits to kill them.

So it was already in place in the first game to a certain degree, think this is the only weapon that this applies to though.

Besides, not sure if this is true in real life, if you got shot from a distance it would still be pretty likely to kill you.

indeed. valve already said that they do not want to make a realism game. so no velocity stuff or wind affect bullet curve or something like that. so it doesnt mather the range. the bullet will inflict the same damage.

The game needs to be FUN!

I would guess that in both HL and HL2 you engage enemies at such close range it wouldnt matter.
But it should be possible to mod. It shouldnt be that hard to add range to the shots and determine damage by that. Same with hitboxes, if you hit someone in the arm (I assume HL2 will have hitbox support as HL did) it should be easy to add a chance to drop the weapon.

i think hl2 has limping etc. also if a team member from the resistance gets wounded then other freedomfighters run up to him and drag him away and give him medic assistance. (read it somewhere) the movements are pretty realistic also the actions and desisions

If its the movement from the E3 demo that is supposed to be realistic I really hope they get updated for the full game, it looked like running monkeys :D

The Reason this happens is because at close range when you shoot a shotgun all the bullets wont have the distance to spread. They will be close togethere, therefore all hitting the target.
But from a long range they will have the distance they need to spread, making it hard for all of them to hit the target. So not all the bullets will hit it becuase they will all be spreaded out.
Thats they way a shotgun works.

do u think you could try to remember where you got that info evil. There might be more info for me to read that i have somehow missed. Allthough i dont see how :P

oh and AgentXen, that might be it for the shotgun, ( i know thats what it is in real life) but i dont know about the other weapons. I would have to test i spose. Which i cant be arsed to do :)

But where did he get his information. I dont doubt its true. I just wana know where he read it. Do you know. If you do i will forgive you for being so offensive to me the other day.

To be honest, I don't think it should be implemented after thinking about it. It would be a resource hog, and I doubt there is any large enough areas ingame that would take bullet drop into effect.

I your talking about the physics affecting bullet velocity. Then no. Valve allready stated that most of the weapons will be hitscan. However there are apparently a few that are affected. For example the nade launcher in the 4th E3 video :)

come on its not that importatn tbh, i mean it actually kinda sux, doesnt add anything to the game

i thought so too

Its called buckshot you retard, it spreads out over distances...jesus christ

Gabe already answered this question in an email and the answere is "no".... but he aslo said it could be modded. So basicly its not in there but it can be.

i agree with EVIL, the game needs to be fun and adding velocity to bullets etc... thats gonna make it less fun.

besides, if pple want a game with such realism, im sure theres pple out there that can put out a mod like that..

on a side note, EVIL is ur sig truthful? :afro:
