I am asking this question because there is so much talk about all the Valve support for the mod making community. Since Valve basically owns CS, Opposing Force, DOD, and TeamFortress (they sell them at retail) and they will be packaged with HL2 (from what I hear), it will be incredibly difficult for a new mod to gain large fan support unless it totally destroys CS:S and DOD:S in gameplay(very unlikely). That doesn't give mod makers, who want as many people as possible to enjoy their hard work, much of a chance to improve on HL2's multiplayer (I include CS:S, Dod:S, and whatever else that comes with the game as being HL2's multiplayer). Their mod would also have to be incredibly well organized and it would have to be under development for a long time (maybe released a year or more after HL2). It would be very difficult and complex to make a new mod that can come close to the quality of the Valve owned mods.
Because of this, I forsee there being maybe 1 (possibly 2) new mods that come out for HL2 that have a large community impact.
What do you guys think?
