Do you guys think that valve may be taking too long to put out this HDR thing, i mean we've heard about it for a while now and its already being used in games that are coming out this year other then lost coast, do you guys think valve made it a bigger deal then it really is? at e3 i saw the ut2k7 presentation and their using HDR and they made it sound like it wasnt anything new, they didnt emphasize a big deal on it like valve seems to be doing. your thoughts?

Valve is just saying that it can implement it into their Source engine- i haven't heard them say it's a brand new thing. It's just going to be advertising Valve's latest engine and it's ability to be modified into the (short term, at least) future of gaming.

I don't know. You could be right.

Consider: Physics had been knocking around in games for awhile, and although interesting it wasn't much more than a gimic. Then along came HL2 and fully intergrated it into gameplay and made physics actually mean something.

Perhaps they will do this with HDR. I doubt it, but they just might.

So because there is going to be HDR in UT 2007 Valve is too late with it?

Yea, UT2007 ain't going to be out until late 2006/early 2007. You have to wait a long time for it.

Bloom has been in games, sure, but that's not all HDR is about. HDR has also been faked before, but now it is fully integrated into the engine, and will just be jaw-droppingingly awesome :)

I can certainly wait a few months for this, it will cause huge improvements in graphics (lighting is a key part in any scene, even ask big-time movie directors) and provide more realistic scenes :)
