Hi to all, do you guys think i may be able to experience halflife2 the way it was supposed to be experienced with this notebook?? :

Its an:

Asus M6v or Z70
Pentium M (Centrino) 750 (1,86GHz 2MB 533MHz)
1024MB DDR2
80GB
DVDRW Dual DL
TFT 15,4" WXGA
ATI Radeon X600 128MB HyperMemory (64+64)

I just got this notebook (like a week ago, and running doom3 it kinda ran... on hickups at 1024 resolutions, i had to keep the level of details on medium.

Do you guys reckon i may be able to play it "well" instead of having all the features turned off???

I´d appreciate some help.

Thanks

Should be able to run it on medium. The processor will hold it back, and I doubt you'll be able to use High settings.

no way it should be able to play on all high with that

Well, i dont know much about computers, ive read that the graphics card the notebook carries (x600 with 128mbs hypermemory) doesnt quite cut it, i wish i could play it on high, even though graphics dont really make the game for me (and ive been craving to play hl2 ever since i played the first one, but i didnt have a computer good enough for it).

So i guess its mixed opinions?

Yeah Giant it wont be HIgh. HIs processor is to limited.

It will run nicely. Just dont be a graphics whore and you will be able to enjoy it. ;)

That'll be fine. I can run on high (slowdown but easily playable...long loading times though) and I only have a 9600 SE. :E

textures and models need ram shaders and shadows need gfx card power all the cpu dose is the ai and physics

Don't worry about it, you meet the system requirements...Mid-High settings and you will be fine...in the end it WILL run.

To get the best out of it be sure to check through this;

http://www.tweakguides.com/HL2_1.html

Good guide on improving HL2 performance. Some good tips about the graphic settings. For example it advises that if you need to make a few cut backs then the 'model detail' is one setting that you can lower without spoiling the look of the game. It shows that the difference between MEDIUM settings & HIGH for model detail is not as obvious as the difference you see changing the settings for texture detail. Good advice - Texture detail is very noticable between MEDIUM & HIGH but model detail is much less obvious. The water setting is another one - 'Simple reflections' is the lowest & least demanding setting but it still looks amazing! 'Reflect world' does exactly that but it's much more demanding on your system meaning you may experience a frame rate drop whenever you reach water if your system is not up to handling it! I've always played with this set to 'simple reflections' in order to improve perfromance. Still looks amazing. It's all about getting a nice balance between looks & performance.

Thanks a bunch for that link :D and for all your replies, :) i appreciate it a lot!!!

Hl2 is a mostly CPU limited game, that explains why I can run at max settings (except AA/AF) @1280*1024 despite my crappy Radeon X300.

You'll run on medium settings without any problems. HL2 performs pretty well.

The CPU will be your limiting factor, however, you should be able to push the game to high settings, although then you should expect long loading times and slowdowns in some areas. On Medium, though, it should be very nice to you.

Yeah, and wehn I only had 512 megs, i could only run low-med settnigs, but with 1024 it was all maximum except for the water.

The centrino processor is a very good processor, its like amd's who don't depend so much on clock speed as much.
