Xen.

I agree wholeheartedly, Xen is great.

This image should be renamed "Why Angry Lawyer is right and there's no Combine on Xen"

Xen is great. I love this etheric atmosphere when first reach the Xen and when you are confronted with G-man, also Xen parts in OpFor looks amazing (this purple one). And I love Xen because there is too much crystals :)

Etheric. There's a word that doesn't get used enough.

Yes, I found the purple sky to be pretty awesome in OP4. Though it wasn't as atmospheric as in Half-life.

That's because it isn't a word...

God, not this again. Look, no they weren't.

Opinions. There's a real word that doesn't get used enough.

The Combine was in Xen, lol!

Ok, for one thing, they wouldn' be on Xen anyway. Thats not how the Combine operates.

Second, Angry Lawyer is god and you never disagree with him.

THE COMBINE WERE NOT ON XEN!

Xen was sick, but just not my style of gameplay. Boss fights are fun because when you beat one you feel like you've accomplished more than killing a lowly Vortigaunt(my opinion). I did like the jumping, but had to change some tactis I used to own those noob aliens :sniper:

I quite enjoyed the jumping puzzles on Xen, despite the problems they caused me ;)

I liked Xen in all 3 games (even though OpFor barely used it), and especially Blue Shift.

How about a phrase I dont use enough: Stop mouthing off to the senior members, and use your brain to figure out how we all KNOW the Combine weren't on Xen
\rant

On Topic : The Xen levels were my favourite. Hell, I loved the jumping puzzles, and the enviroment was just so alien to me when I first plated it (I was 10, and It was my first PC ever)

Wow, I can hear a lot of slurping going on.

Although, I was kidding about the combine being on xen, but I guess you.. guys take it serious.. LOL!

"Hey, guys, I think the combine owned xen"

"OMFG N)0b, STFU, NO THEY WEREN'T. USE YER BRAIN, CUZ US SENOR MEMBERS OWN YALLZ AND WE RIGHT"

Hahaha yeah, the combine where in Xen allright... Well, seriously, they wernt.
I liked the Xen chapters, but not as much as the begining of the game when you getall those security guard to buy you beer, and as for in half life to, klainers lab and black mesa east, i liked those places when you walk around reading stuff, talking to people listen to barney telling you to hurry up, and throw some junk at alyx when she stand in the teleport. Haha thats fun. Whould love to hear someone saying: Hey Gordon, stop that!

Uh... this is, sorta, a HALF-LIFE2 FORUM. It contains people who are half-life fanatics, half-life fans, half-life scientists, modders, gamers, exploiters, fiction-writers, and people who don't give a stuff about HL.

Also, there's a big thread in the rumors and superstition thread about the Combine and Xen, which runs into a lot of pages, and people tend to get peeved off about it.

BOOOOOM, ILLITERATE BIZATCH!

Also, there's:

law·yer ( P ) Pronunciation Key (lôyr)
n.
1. One whose profession is to give legal advice and assistance to clients and represent them in court or in other legal matters.
2. Guy who's always right.
3. The Combine weren't on Xen.

Lol.

Anyways, on-topic, the Xen chapters were great. Great sightings, and gave you a good (enviromental) picture of what another world could possibly look like.

Honestly... I gotta say, When i first played Half life 2, I never thought that the combine where on Xen. Mostly, becouse when everyone talk about how the combine want elis teleportation development. Also that in the questions to Valve thread, and many other places they say; How the Xeniens fleed to Xen and later invaded earth, for comfort realy. And becouse the Combine dont have control over Xen, stated by G-man, they cant teleport very eficiant. (spelling?)

So all this text means: I agree. The Combine where not on Xen. They want to, but arent.

Who didn't think Xen was pretty cool when they got there?

1) Sorry for this etheric misunderstanding (maybe I have different education)
2) Always listen to your Angry Lawyer
3) Please do not make another "Combine on Xen" thread

Now ON topi, a few thing what makes Xen cool:

- weird nebula like "sky"
- low gravity
- bizarre flora
- beautiful glowing crystals
- alien design of factories and caves

btw Do you remember brilliant OpFor MP map Xendance?

I really don't see any evidence, vague or conclusive, that suggests the Combine were on Xen. Especially not PRIOR to the Combine invasion. I also think Xen is humanity's trump card, and will help defeat the Combine.

As far as Xen itself is concerned, it was the best alien environ ever implemented into a video game IMO. An endless, atmospheric void. The Nihilanth's voice speaking to you at the beginning of some maps was genius. And Polaris: yeah Xendance was my one of my fav Xen levels. The purple sky was a primary reason. I just hope Xen will make a comeback in hl2: episodes whether in aftermath (doubt it) or in later episodes.

I was scared shittless while I was playing Xen. One of the reasons was that I was playing it simultaniously with OP4 and BS and I kept thinking that Race-X were going to show up.

I can't believe it. All these people LIKE Xen. It brings tears to my eyes; I thought I was alone in my love for the border world. All I ever hear about Xen is, "OMGZ jumping puzzles 2 hard and I diez! Xen sux! lololol"

Xen is my absolute favorite environment in any game I've ever played. No place in a game has ever captured my attention so instantly, and so well that I am compelled to stop and look at my surroundings for extended periods of time, just marveling at them. The atmosphere on Xen is so thick you can almost breathe it. Standing out on a 7ft.-diameter rock in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a nebula sky, after being in closed-in office spaces and underground laboratories, the change of environments was so drastic, and the LOOK was so breathtaking. Everything has this alien beauty, things like the healing pools and the flora, even the land itself. Xen was so alien and natural, and it was believable.

It's sad to think that we might never have another excursion to Xen, and I think it might be due to the majority of players' reactions about Xen. Storywise, we had no reason to visit Xen in HL2, nor in Aftermath, but even in future games I doubt if Valve will send us there again. They probably think it might not be well-received. Here's hoping though that we're sent to other alien worlds, possibly ones that are Combine-controlled or are under siege by the Combine.
