What is the main cause of homosexuality?

Note: This pole refers to the physical attraction to a member of the same sex and not the act of engaging in sex with a member of the same sex which is of course a choice.

I believe that you are born gay.
 
I think you choose it, though probably not on a fully awake level.
 
I chose other. I don't think the 'raised guy' thing really applies here. My opinion is... life experiences lead you in that direction. Cultural and social experiences, whether good or bad things.

My opinion is based on my own facts(which apply to me) that happened in my life.
 
i believe that we are born genderless, that is, without an understanding of gender and/or sexuality and then, through people, events, and natural self-developement (experiementation, if you will) evolve into either gay, straight, or bisexual people.

so then, that is to say that you are not born gay, nor are you deliberately raised to be gay, nor do you consciously choose to be gay. In normal circumstances, sexuality evolves almost out of it's own volition, since no singular person or experience conspires to make you gay (though the same cannot be said about trying to make kids straight), nor can it be proven that a person can be genetically predisposed to being gay. And the child obviously cannot be held accountable for his/her role, as they are completely oblivious.

The culmination of experiences is what gives a person his sexual identity, just as life experiences make us cowardly or brave, strong-willed or meek. Sexuality is just another part of our overall character.

now i've spent entirely too much time on this subject. damn you. :P
 
the main cause of the disease called "gay" is a viral infection from satans bung hole. remedies include jesus.
 
I don't really know. It sure as hell isnt any kind of 'lifestyle choice' though.

thats ****ed up, why bother raising a girly man? you might as well just put him up for adoption so he wont grow up getting picked on. how far we've come since the days of hunting wooly mammoth. dont people have any shame? raise your kid right or dont do it at all.
 
I should have picked the I don't care slot but I did not. I believe that you choose to be gay, and that is the final verdict. I don't see how it is possible to be born gay. But I guess everyone has their own opinion.
 
Well you cannot be "born gay" like you cannot be born straight.

You do not develop sexual instincts until later on and enriroment might tip you from being straight to slightly gay.
Certain foods/chemicals/lifestyles can affect hormones and sex drive circuitry in the brain.

You are born with a tendency to be gay therefore, just like poeple are born with a tendancy to be more muscular but upbringing does play a smaller part in it.

Also if you have the unique ability to alter your own brain functions, like me, you can choose your sexuality and do a lot to alter your mind and body.
 
opinion is meaningless if not backed up with facts


oh and giving a kid gender specific clothes/activities/toys etc does nothing to shape gender (how exactly that could be conveyed to a child who has no clue as to sexuality is beyond me) ..many girls start off very much like boys in the way they play games/interact with people ...however from the very beginning there is a distinct difference in their temperment/behaviour/learning patterns ...you can no more shape their sexual preference than you could their gender



oh and incidentily there was a kid I grew up with who's parents dressed him like a girl (he was in one of my classes and even the teachers thought he was a girl) ...saw a few years back, had 3 kids and a wife, was as macho as the next guy

nonsense, are you suggesting we all choose our sexual preference? funny how so many people same this over and over yet not one of them have ever been able to produce even a single example ...which is funny because if that were true there'd be 6 billion examples

what you're suggesting is that anyone can be gay, you only need the right circumstances ..which would mean that the opposite is true ...that we're born with the possibility of being straight, that all we need is the right circumstances ...so in other words humans are born both straight and gay ..they only need the right circumstances to bring one to the forefront ...which kind of contradicts what you said about being born gay

Negative, we do not choose our sexual preference, it is mostly determined by genetics however there is a certain degree of environmental as well.

Prob 90/10 or something.

I just didn't like it being described as being "born" gay, seeing as sexuality does not really develop until later on in childhood, think you misunderstood me.

Obviously there is a tendancy for most males to be straight, hence 90% of men are straight.
 
there are many social traits children (and animals) can show which they have no concious understanding of

logical fallacy ...I can use the same logic by saying that humans are self-destruction and will one day cease to exists because x amount of single people and gays will never have children

I seriously doubt male babies have erections because they were thinking about that hot nurse that spanked them or the hot porno they watched last night.
 
well it'd be hard to prove under any circumstances ...it's not a subject I'd like to research in any depth :)
