The biggest shocker here is that UP got nominated for Best Picture... That's only happened one other time for an animated film, when Beauty and the Beast was nominated. Of all animated films to skip over the years, they finally chose one, and its UP? I liked the film, but its not that great.

Is there usually so many nominees for best picture?

Anyway nothing for moon RAGE!!! :flame:

Best Picture

* “Avatar”
* “The Blind Side”
* “District 9”
* “An Education”
* “The Hurt Locker”
* “Inglourious Basterds”
* “Precious
* “A Serious Man”
* “Up”
* “Up in the Air”

OK I can't believe movies have been that bad this year that some of these nominees are here namely avatar and inglourious basterds *facepalm* also if a serious man is anything like no country or burn after reading I can already guess I will ****ing despise it >_>

I will be overjoyed if the blind side or district 9 wins cos they are both brilliant movies and I LOVED them both :D

Also I would like to see sandra bullock win best actress and christopher waltz for best supporting actor (even though I didnt like inglourious basterds he was VERY good in it)

Moon sucked thats why its not there. I kid I kid

Yeah, normally theres only 5 nominations for Best Picture, but because there were so many films, they bumped it up to 10. Or something like that.

So many? 2009 sucked as a year for movies overall >_> I'm sure they can wittle it down to 5 if they tried

Art Direction

* “Avatar” Art Direction: Rick Carter and Robert Stromberg; Set Decoration:Kim Sinclair
* “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” Art Direction: Dave Warren and Anastasia Masaro; Set Decoration: Caroline Smith
* “Nine” Art Direction: John Myhre; Set Decoration: Gordon Sim
* “Sherlock Holmes” Art Direction: Sarah Greenwood; Set Decoration: Katie Spencer
* “The Young Victoria” Art Direction: Patrice Vermette; Set Decoration: Maggie Gray

I hope “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” wins the art direction category.

Avatar was good but not Award Winning Good. also Moon would have been a good contender but not too many people know about it

Avatar will win it for sure. The sales are too hard to ignore.

But at the same time I wouldnt be surprised if District 9 or Up wins it.

Wonder if D9 will win for anything at all.

So? It's the oscars not a popularity contest.......oh wait.

If you know it's a stupid popularity contest and that the award means nothing, then why get bent over them.

cos it still doesn't make it right, especially when it is the most lauded of all movie awards.

And its still not right that some things are popular when they suck ass *coughavatarcough*

imagine what the world would be like if it was run by aha-lambda and his distaste for others opinions

I don't know what he's talking about. That's a pretty lovely selection of potential 'best pictures'. I was rooting for The Hurt Locker, but Up, Up In The Air and Inglouriouriourious Basterrrrrrdz were all fantastic.

oh come on, it would be better than samon and yorick :p

I liked Moon as much as the next guy, but it's not really a movie worthy of any of these awards. The ending was uninteresting and I felt more connected to the robot AI than to Sam Rockwell.

I am hoping for a Hurt Locker win for best picture.

Wonder if D9 will win for anything at all.

I don't expect it, but would be a pleasant surprise.

I'm not sure whether I would prefer Up or Inglourious Basterds to win. I loved them both. I meant to see A Serious Man but missed it. The Coen brothers are usually very good.

And the award for best Make Up goes to...

Star Trek, for it's subtle re-use of Lord of the Ring's elf ears!

As a fan of The Thick of It, I'm glad to see In the Loop in the nominations. :D

That just made me realize how few new movies I've seen this year.

If Christoph Waltz doesn't win Best Supporting, there is no justice in the world.

Looks to be quite an interesting year, may stay up till the wee hours to watch it.

I don't think there is anyway he won't win tbh
