Maybe you're right. But the masks also foreground the utopian ideals which are as much a part of anonymous as shitting dick nipples are: the idea that any idea expressed by any part of the group is only ever as valid as any other, and no more important. With no identity, any idea or argument must be taken entirely on its own merits. It's not just cowardice. They are not going to find out who I am by a simple picture, at least it is unlikely, and imagine, if we all don't wear masks, what are they going to do? Take the time to harass all of us? Screw that, if I am taking my time to protest an injustice, I'll be sure to show my face.
I think it's silly to wear masks at such events out of fear. Fear, and they win.

I never said it was harmful, it just isn't nearly as productive as some seem to believe.
You can't wear bandannas or sunglasses? Everyone can wear those...
the scientology guys sure are sensitive, they don't want anyone to know what kind of idiots they really are. and i'm amazed really how can anyone even beleive that crap in the first place? then again, a lot more people believe the bible too...
I can't quite believe that the cops actually turned up when the scientologists called; surely they must be used to bullshit claims from Co$ goons and learn to stop coming when wolf is cried.
We should have a public database of all known members of Scientology, or at least those who present themselves such as that gentlemen... the people who put themselves out there in the name of Scientology.
Scientology likes to keep a private database of all persons who tread anywhere on their property. Pictures, video, audio. You name it.

I fully endorse this.
I'd go to a protest, but I don't think there's even a church in my city, let alone a group of people preparing to protest there.

Andreas Heldal-Lund, founder of the Scientology-critical website and non-profit organization Operation Clambake, released a statement criticizing the digital assault against Scientology.[16] Heldal-Lund commented, "People should be able to have easy access to both sides and make up their own opinions. Freedom of speech means we need to allow all to speak - including those we strongly disagree with. I am of the opinion that the Church of Scientology is a criminal organisation and a cult which is designed by its delusional founder to abuse people. I am still committed to fight for their right to speak their opinion."[87] He also stated that "Attacking Scientology like that will just make them play the religious persecution card ... They will use it to defend their own counter actions when they try to shatter criticism and crush critics without mercy."[4]
Mark Bunker, a Scientology critic who runs the website XenuTV.com, posted a video to YouTube and asked Anonymous to tone down their campaign against the Church of Scientology.[22] According to NPR's Morning Edition, Bunker has "become a revered voice to many members of Anonymous," and they refer to him as "Wise Beard Man".[88] Bunker told Newsweek that he was concerned for the safety of participants in Project Chanology: "I know the way Scientology works: they're going to get these people in trouble ... I'm very concerned about their safety, and I'm concerned about the Scientologists' safety, too."[5] Bunker stated that he has received 6,000 emails from individuals who say they are part of Anonymous.[5] Bunker attended the February 10, 2008 protest against Scientology in Los Angeles.[89]
