I've been rewatching this series recently, and it just brings back all sorts of funny feelings when I first watched it. Great show, with alot of funny parts. I'm currently at the end of the 3rd season..mmm Shadow War!

What did you guys think of it?

I LOVE B5. Completely.

If Firefly was longer it could possibly have reached my no.1 spot, but it wasn't, and B5 comfortably holds the crown. Sci-Fi doesn't get more epic and G'Kar and Londo are the greatest sci-fi characters ever. I have a Londo doll.

So yeh, I like it :)

I've never watched it. I've seen a few snatches of star trek, I don't know what seasons or versions or what, and It alwasy seemed boring to me.

Oh dear god, a Londo doll....I must see. Pics!

Great show possible the bestg sci-fi ever created. However I prefer ST:Voy, it was good and if it wasn't the way it was, Ronald D. Moore would not have hated it and made the new Battelstar Galactica, which is also awesome.

ST gets too much hate DS9 and Voy were great shows.

I meant action figure. It's the one with him holding a wine glass that comes with a little space ship. What i'd really like, I mean REALLY like, are the plush dolls that appeared in the episode from season 2 with B5 souvenir shop that Londo wanted to close down.

Meh, preferred Bablyon 4.

Alright, alright, I've never watched it. Somebody mind summarising for me just what makes it so good?

I think it's because the scope of B5 is so grand. It is the most epic of sci-fi series with themes ranging from politics, diplomacy and war, to prejudice, racsim, fear, friendship, love, hate, good and evil. In comparison other sci-fi shows are quite localised - dealing with tiny portions of the universe and just a few races - and seem rather insignificant. Even the mighty Star Trek, for all it's episodes and series, feels rather spartan and less wonderful after B5.

I like the way stories evolve and span whole seasons - some arcs begining in season 1 and not finished untill the 5th - and how you go on a journey with the main charatcers that lasts years. I like how it's less episodic than other shows and how most events that take place have some impact on a greater scale. Most of all I like Londo and G'kar. I'm a sci-fi nerd and have liked many charatcers from different shows, but after watching everything these two guys go through from the begining of B5 to the end they feel like nam buddies.

At times B5 can be a little cheesey (not enough for it to be lumped with shite like Star Gate, Farscape, Andromeda etc) and the first season is rather weak. Infact, i'd suggest starting on no.2 through to 5 and then watching the movies (especially In The Begnining) before season 1. Otherwise it's awesome and well worth persevering with. Things start quite small and escalate into greatness :)

No way! They gotta watch Season 1. Get them attached to Cpt Sinclair. He was a good character, and everything that happened with him was just such a build up! Plus, the events of Babylon 4 were probably the most epic in my mind. You were so confused by the episode, it comes back, and you're just like "OOHHHH I get it now!"

Sulk- The show is about a space station, the 5th and last of it's kind, to help keep peaceful tides with all the other alien races. It's in neutral territory, so no wars will break out over that, and it helps with the diplomacy of other races towards another. Over the course of the series, Earth goes to the shitter, races go to war with each other, people die, a new and great enemy has shown itself, and it's all about the crew trying to deal with this shit, and survive. Quite a masterpiece, if I say so myself...

Generally through out the show, you will see one thing, and not take it the same as someone else. That's one of the glory points of this show.

Fair enough. Although huge chunks of the season could be missed without taking away much. While some episodes are good, season 1 always feels like a poor Star Trek to me - episodic with little of what makes B5 great - and is not indicative of what to expect with the rest of the show. I'd still advise starting with season 2 and working your way through 3 first.

True, the first season is some of the smaller character build ups, until they realized what they needed to do with Sheridan, they brought out the big guns and did the show right. You also don't understand the whole "Dellen transformation" thing as much. The first season had alot of important moments that explain plot points/problems that arise in season 2 and 3.

Yeah, Season 1 was one of the weakest. Overall Season 5 had a lot of low points too. You have to watch it though to really understand the arc.

One of the things I loved about the show was how it was slated out to be 5 seasons, and a lot of it was written with that in mind. So yeah there are some filler episodes, but most of them contain even a small something that contributes to the overall arc. The range of it is amazing.

On the contrary. They thought they were going to be canceled in the 4th season, so they did the best they could to wrap things up by the end. When they found out they were still on for a 5th season, they already wrapped up the most important plots, and the rest were just...bleh. That's why season 5 was so weak...there really wasn't much to do! They had to try to just make a filler season. It was OK, and the movie they made was just great.

:|. How can you put Star Gate next to garbage like Farscape and Andromeda?
Star Gate is one of my favorite Sci-Fi series excluding the last 2 series which are shit, and can be considered clones of Andromeda:x

Man I feel like a :dork:

It was quite good, far more better than Star Trek. I don't remember main characters but I loved that mantis smuggler.

Farscape garbage? You're insane Farscape shits all over star gate.

No, I know. Even as a filler season I found it lame.

I could deal with the changes to the B5 crew (Losing Ivanova and Marcus, Sheridan going to be President, Lochley coming in) and having most of the season revolving around the coming Telepath war but even that felt really lame. I hated Byron's character and felt that they could just do so much more with it.

Farscape garbage? You're insane Farscape shits all over star gate.

I couldn't agree more.

Awesome show, I started getting the discs in Netflix back in Massachusetts but I had to cancel it as I moved to Cali.

Started it up again, episode 8 of Season 2.... I love this show but I was wondering, when would be the best time to watch the movies and in what order?

Eh. The movies are kind of weak, overall.

In the Beginning is all about the Earth-Minbari war, but I don't remember there being a lot to the movie that you don't already know from the rest of the show. Still, because of the allusions and such in it, I wouldn't watch it until you're into Season 4. There's some stuff that happens towards the end of Season 3 that sets up for the movie being what it is.

Thirdspace is a lot of fun. It takes place just inside Season 4. I don't want to spoil what happens, but the movie takes place between the two wars. I think it's more or less around episode 4 or 5 or something.

River of Souls takes place after Season 5, but since Season 5 is the last season, the final episode "Sleeping in Light" is a "20 years later" kind of thing, so you could watch it before the finale. Call to Arms is the same, it's post-Season 5, but should be seen before Sleeping in Light.

Holy bumpage! I thought someone else made a thread and was like "Woah..this is odd.."

You're both right. They originally thought it would be 5, then were told it would be 4 so JMS wrapped most of it up.

The movies are decent, I didn't like Well of Souls much though.

And yes, best Sci-Fi series of all time.
Should be watched from Season 1 the first time round at least. Midnight on the Firing Line (ep1) sets up some Arcs that last for the whole series.

Guess I'll be waiting more or less until I'm done watching the series to watch the movies then. :p
Appreciate it, love this show and just really want to watch it the way it's meant to be viewed.

The spin-off series Crusade looked to be quite promising too before it was cancelled. Worth a look. It carries on from the events of Call to Arms.

my friend and I watched this entire series and movies in about half a years time. We loved this show, but Season 5 was pretty weak. my favorite was the Shadow Wars, they were insane. Also Battlestar Galactica is coming to an end so I'm gunna have to find a new sci-fi show to fill the void. I also have the entire series of Stargate SG1, but anyone have other suggestions??

If you have SG1 and like it you might as well watch Atlantis too.

I watched the 1st disk of Season 1 of SG1, but my friend and I are trying to finish up Arrested Development which is surprisingly addicting and Roswell. We also watch 24, Dexter and a few other shows but we love the sci-fi shows a lot

You can try the B5 spin-off, Crusade. Though since it was cancelled mid season the arc doesn't end properly.

Just rewatched the final episode of season 4. With a guy in the distant future observing historical record spanin 1000 years. Kind of depresing, whith humanity reverting back to a "dark ages" type state after a nuclear civil war.

In the end they show that the observer was in fact human, 1 milion years in the future, preparing to leave an abandoned Earth prior to the sun going nova.

A good episode even though:

-the sun can't go nova
-the sun won't die for at least a few bilion years
-that guy looked like a normal human even though he was supposedly from a million years in the future (what happened to evolution?)
-humanity would've died out being stranded on a irradiated Earth, with primitive technology and depleted resources...

Your problems with the episode aren't actually problems. Use spoiler tags maybe.

- JMS confirmed that the sun was artifically caused to go nova
- That was the guy in human form, he became a vorlon-like being of pure energy at the end of the scene and entered a vorlon-like encounter suit. According to JMS both the Minbari and Humans had advanced to such a stage by 1 million though the other young races (Narns, Draazi etc.) weren't there yet.
- Not all humans were stranded on Earth, the colonies didn't suffer that nuclear apocalypse, it was them helping Earth to rebuild. Slowly.

Also Battlestar Galactica is coming to an end so I'm gunna have to find a new sci-fi show to fill the void. I also have the entire series of Stargate SG1, but anyone have other suggestions??

Farscape. If you like BSG and B5 you might like it. It's got some great writing and characters, especially in the later seasons. It's a bit campy at times, but a great great show.

There's a big diference between B5 and Farscape. B5 is serious, Farscape isn't...

And thanks for clearing that up Ejit.

I wub Babylon 5, one of my fav shows.

and also saying B5 was always serious isn't true, does anyone remember the episode with the motorcycle?

Dear god that episode was bad...
