Well, a friend borrowed me this game.
I can honestly say its quite a frustating game. First, it don't have any inmersion at all, it really just feels like you are put in this map and you need to pass this pre-establish zone of germans waiting for you. They say the Ai is good, well that's not really true, as Germans will only stay in ther firezone and won't move to another position. You soldier are also really dumb sometimes, they won't move or won't fire or will get stupidly shot. The aiming. man, I know they wanted realism, and you can come with arguments of practise, but its imposible to shoot even a point blank.
The animations are quite bad, the Germans seem to ice skate while moving, and when they die, the ragdoll is quite awfull. Lets not get into how badly map and unrealistic they are. They are awfull boring, in COD2 it quite felt like you were in a town. I mean, if a reanger cant jump a 30 Cm wall thats lame, and we all hate invisible walls, at least do like in COD2, where they were nicly bloked.

Tactics are original, they are fun if used right. I wished however that the squad would respond faster to my commands specially the assault team, as they allways get hit. The arguments are quite fun to hear, or specially when they shout in battle, but the damn dialogue of the main characther is lameeeeeeeee. He speacks with this poetic voice while speaking of war in a Shakspear manner. To bad we can't skip it.

Also, is it me ? Or did they really send a 6 man squad to take an entire town ?
If this was ala call of Duty, I would end the maps in 3 minutes top.

Well tha's about it. I'll still play it to see how this ends. :)

the screenshots looked amazing, but a game is squat without gameplay

I played the demo. IMO complete crap. I know youre gun shakes and its looks like you are, but can you actually shoot, I never killed anyone from a distance greater than 10m.

Realism. Then again, i see where youre coming from if you were using a rifle for example.

The whole 'covering fire' system adds good tactical options. The squad acts as a squad if YOU control them properly. If you think theyre useless, then its because youve put them in useless positions/situations.

I thought it was a good, fresh game.

didnt nearly look half as good as cod2's. bia's graphics are outdated...

What dynassty said is right. However though I do think the game deserved all the praise it got, I didn't like it much either.
Mainly because at the end for you everything was as it always was, but the germans could suddenly easly hit you behind cover, like all of a sudden they all sniperrifles. I would have preferred they added dificulty by making them smarter.
Like for examply making them change their positions, setting up boobytraps. I just hated it when they make a game harder by simply letting the enemy cheat. Well thats atleast the impresion I got.
I also did not like that just like in real life it came down a little to often to luck especially with your assult squad, even if you were giving them good coverfire.

I think the expansion pack fixed some of the AI problems. Squads now get the hell out of there if you flank them, they dont just stand up, turn to you and start firing.

Earned in Blood fixed most of its problems imo.

It's definitely a game you should have atleast rented if you have a console.

got the 1st one on pc the day it came out, was pretty hyped for it after the reviews but thought was awful, i couldnt help but think what ign and gs were smokin' when they played it...:/

I enjoyed it. I loved the cover/fire/flank system. A lot of good shootouts. The sound was pretty well done also.

The sound was preety awfull, guns sounded like pea shooters. COD2 has great sound.

The sounds were great imo, the Thompson really sounded awesome. MG42 and FG42 had great sounds as well.

Even though the game had some parts I really didn't like, BiA was a good game, and Earned in Blood were even better. The AI on the Germans, for once, was actually smart.
Yes, I liked Brother in Arms and gladly wait to see what they can come up with BiA3. :)

I disliked the fact there was always a wall of mud facing behind or to the side of an enemys postion. Too many convienient walls of mud.

I also disliked that Sgt whatshisface. The guy who always had the radio guy with him. He'd always brief you then run off out of the level so do something at another squads postion or make a report at HQ or whatever. Then at the end of the level he'd just repear, right from the direction that about 15 Germans and a panzer came from.

I thought the aiming was pretty simple really. In fact, I don't remember having any difficulty with it at all. Then again, most the time I was using German weapons..

Yeah, I liked it. Alot actually. Played through it about 3 times now. Good game. Although I see they followed Call of Duty in not being very diverse with the German tanks.

It was alright for abit the first few levels, but i can see where it became pretty formulaic, it didnt hold my attention for that long.

I got the game because I saw it going for $10 in a store in China (it's original, trust me), and it was the only game there that wasn't released before 2003 :hmph: Haven't played it yet though.

Was a good game, but I still don't understand how a game can look so plain and still run below 20fps at 1024 on 3800+ A64, X800 and a gig of RAM.

It really ****ed me off, especially when games like HL2, Quake4 and BF2 run like a beast

HL2 came out a year ago too but that doesn't look like I dragged my bare ass across the monitor. BIA's graphics were shit the day it was released.

rolf Half lyfe Too wuz waayz betta dan dat shyt gayme.

BiA Strives for Realism, If that's not your cup of tea is it really necessary to make a topic?

Guitar Hero is awful Because I hate Rock Music.

These Fourms have really gone downhill.

I loved the realistic way flanked enemies simply turned to you and opened fire instead of getting the hell out. Oh, and the realistic invisible barriers.

Perhaps if they were aiming to make a realistic simulation of a crappy game then I believe they succeded.

You can call BiA a game of tactics, but it is not a game of realism.

I loved BiA, nice change from Cod2 or Medal of Honour. It put no stops on its gore (check out the intro for Road to Hill 30) and profanity was yelled pretty much every second. Graphics were outdated, but the gameplay made up for it, since when the tactics were starting to run dry and boring they would send you something new to play with like a tank (or a new gameplay style...like a suicidal run across a field :D). Sound was pretty good too, though if you played the ps2 version of course the weapons would sound tinny...that version got the short end of the stick. Voice acting was a standout for me.

Graphics weren't only outdated, the game ran like crap.

"BiA strives for realism"
It fails.

I was so dissapointed after buying it on the day it came out purely because of the hype. At least it taught me a lesson.

QFE

And they used the unreal engine as well, so I don't know how they managed it

Google WWII Fighting Tactics, Disengaging from combat was allot less common than it is today. Plus there is a server lack of cover for them to run to. I Cannot Overstate this
YOU CANNOT MAKE PERFECT AI The Combine never pulled out, Either did the enemy's in F.E.A.R
Oh, and the realistic invisible barriers.
I Have not yet encountered a Invisible Barrier considering I do what I am told in the game,
The action is immersive enough that I don't try to get over that fence.

They are leaning to realism more than anything else,
The realism in this game is just barely below Ghost Recon.

You Cannot Achieve a Perfect Simulation yet.

Okay, it strives for realism, and perfect realism is not obtainable at this point.

Well, duh.

But I personally found its limitations to be very noticeable to the point where my immersion was shattered and I found myself repeating the same damn tactics over and over again against enemies who just didn't seem to wisen up.
BiA struck me as digital board game that looks deceptively like a WW2 shooter. You only had one trick in your employment: flanking.
