I'm am very sorry if this was asked before but

What country does this all take place?
i was reading another post and there was a picture of somwhere in poland that looked like city 17, it was wierd, anyway, what country?

If you were around back when the game came out, you'd know that there was allot of debate about this, and I believe it was agreed upon that it could very well be any European/Socialist country. Damn near all of them look like C17 and there were billions of threads about it too, with people claiming they lived in C17.

it doesnt matter really what real country it is. ive heard so many different things. the important thing is, is that it is just city 17! it is a fictional city in a fictional game, said to possibly be in europe somewhere. there are many places in the real world that look similar to it.

I doesn't take place in any particular country but there are references to many countires. The 2 main influences are Sofia in Bulgaria and St. Petersburg in Russia I think.

Seing as it's quite near the sea, it seems likely that City-17 is on the coast of the Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Romania, possibly Bulgaria and maybe even Russia. Yeah, that really narrows it down.

Personally I thnk the Ukraine is most likely, espeically since there's actually a town called 'Odesa' on the coast of the Black Sea. Half-Life 2 has a rebel outpost called 'New Little Odessa' - the only clue to a possible location. Then again the guy who lives there is Odessa Cubbage, so it could just be him being vain.

And someone said the street signs came from a differnt country again. Also the apartment buildings are very similar to ones in Warsaw. Oh, and on 1 of the poster doted around the place it shows a poster of a real building from Tokyo.
