Descent. Because 6 > 4.

Mice are obsolete? Thats insane/stupid.
While I can relate that many people have badly configured inputs, a mouse in the hands of a good player is as effective as anything else. It just depends what you're used to.
I've used a mouse for every game I've ever played, and its never let me down.

Use a trackball.

Make your mind up.

Descent 3 isn't for those who cannot assimilate a joystick or put a mouse to good use. Almost every person who walks away from Descent is a mouser with a pathetic keyboard config.

Nope, no mention of trackballs there.

Pi Mu Rhowned

I wish I was the first person to use that joke, but I wasn't. If I ever become a moderator, I'm going to change my name to something that ends in "o," so people can say that kind of thing to me. Kinda like how people can get "Munrowned."

I said 'Rhowned' but not 'Pi Mu Rhowned' :| I guess everyone starts using a slightly modified version of my saying and claiming they started it ;(

Would join you guys but this damn copy of Descent 3 I got from this company called "Sold out Software" refuses to update to version 1.4 - keeps saying "Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since file contents do not match."

Noticed something inaccurate about the title, technically the number of directions you can move in in hl2 is very high, you are only calculating the four directions dictated by the arrow keys or wsad but the gradients of mouse movements are nearly endless and your mouse is how you truly determine the direction in which yout turn.

Half-Life 2 because 100,233,034 > 6

You're using the wrong version of the 1.4 patch. Use this one - http://www.dfiles.de/download/d3/patches/d3aus14patch.zip

Insolent fool, DOF is not direction, it is movement. The difference between HL2 and D3 is that in HL2, you are restricted to moving on the ground. You cannot slide up or down. In descent, you fly a ship that can slide on the X, Y, and Z axes, or on two or three axes at once (bichording and trichording, respectively). It is not considered a flight sim because, although it has unrestricted movement along the Z axis, movement is otherwise like any FPS. Your ship is free to hover in place and you do not have to accelerate into maximum velocity (though you do have an afterburner which gives you short bursts of speed in the direction you are facing). If your gross misunderstanding of 6DOF were actually true, someone would have brought it up. Seven pages ago.

I find it quite amusing that none of you have been able to give a reason for not playing descent. Those of you that played and didn't enjoy it only played the singleplayer, which, in the case of Descent 3, isn't even worth touching. Try playing the actual game (read: multiplayer) and then claim that the game sucks.

Whow slow down buddy! I never ripped the game! and sorry for my gross misenterpretation i'm just a fool like that. I quite enjoyed decent 1/2 and am curious about 3.

I actually liked Descent 3's singleplayer. I thought it was great fun.

I tried that D3_AUS_1.4_Patch.exe, and it gives me the same darn error message. Anyhow, why would I need an Austrailian patch on a U.S. version of Descent 3? I'm gonna try a U.K. patch on it because the company website is (or is suppost to be) www.sold-out.co.uk, and am trying to email their support system.

Alright, understood.

Did you try the MP? It really is easily the best part of the game.

I can't believe I didnt try this before, but out of hope I tried to make it patch MAIN.EXE instead of "Descent 3.exe" and it worked...

Just digged my descent2 out of the closet & cleaned it out of the dust.
(Still wondering about buying Descent3 tough)
Descent games are simply a must see :P

OMG, I love Descent 1,2 and 3. Oh memories flooding back. I played co-op with my bro on Descent 1-2 all the time. One of the best games I have ever played. I can't believe there are people who don't know it. In my opinion Descent 3 wasn't anything special though.

I stopped playing after PXO went down, at that point I considered it dead. I have all the descent games and expansions, maybe it's worth taken them out again. Play through every single one :D

Ah yes, that will do it. Descent 3.exe is the launcher. Main.exe is the game.

Yes, the co-op can be quite fun. Why didn't you like Descent 3? I can understand being dissapointed with the singleplayer (the first two games had terrific single player but the third's was more than lacking) but I think the multiplayer more than makes up for it. We have a new tracker now, Vortex.

Whoops!

Sorry guy, decent is no halflife. It does'nt matter how many directions you can move if they all look and play like ass.

It comes down to niche vs marketing

The Descent series is without a doubt AAA. The main games feature incredible value and easily the most unique shooter experience available in gaming. The ability to actually take advantage of full 3D physics makes the current regime feel like a step backward. Why bother upgrading your computer to play poorly optomized slideshows, when you could order Descent 3 for a couple dollars and potentially have more fun?

I challenge you to play in a 20 person D3 game and tell me its not mad fun.

It's not mad fun. I've played in at least 15 person games, with you in attendance. This thread needs no resurrection and I'm laying it back down to rest.
