1280x1024 is native for TFTs (17" - 19") but CRTs should always be 4:3 (1024x768 / 1152x864 / 1280x960 / 1600x1200)

I think the fact most people have TFTs now is why 1280x1024 is so popular.

TFT's for gaming? SINNER! Unless you're willing to shell out a huge wad of cash, TFT's suck for gaming, period.

1280x1024 works great for my CRT. I thought 1280x960 looked too stretched out vertically. If my res is wrong then I missed the memo. My old warhorse res was 1152x864 though. I didn't know anyone who used that one.

1024x768
This is my laptops only resolution, so yeah, there ya have it. My parents like 800 x 600, Im just glad I dont live at home anymroe. I use 1280x1024 when I have my crt hooked up to my laptop. And it doesnt looked distorted.

i used to be on 1600 x 1200 until my monitor broke

now im at 1280 x 1024.

Whoa, I think this is getting a little personal! You'll have to PM me for that sort of stuff. ;)

Ok, now I'm upset.
The option 1280x960 is one of the most common of resolutions and it isn't even on the poll?

I have a 17" CRT and a 19" TFT..and I like my TFT more now for gaming. I haven't played much HL2/CS Source since I got it because I've been playing WoW, which looks GREAT.

I've played CS 1.6 though, and sure it's a little dark, and takes a bit to get used to, but once you do, it's fine.

And by huge wad of cash, you mean how much? This one is worth about $600 I think.

There we go.

1280x960 for games although I use 3200x1200 for my desktop.

1280x1024 is the only way to go. Absolutely the best resolution for the desktop, it makes it look really good and stylish, all while not being too small.

1280x1024 on my 19" TFT :D. 1280x960 just makes it too vertical, all stretched. It's the same on the CRT. Just because you have a 1280x960, doesn't make it common :P

i remember teh days when 800x600 was the most "common".
good times good times.

2 Years ago, or maybe 1 i could have agreed with you there. But today in fact, I have made my transition from a 19" Flat CRT to a 20.1" Widescreen LCD - and its incredible. Price was good aswell, considering value for money.

As well as DVI for sharper quality blah blah, the gaming quality is extremely fluid and smooth. I have played UT2004, HL2, CSS (heavily hehe) and im NEVER EVER going to use that CRT again.

My screens a Dell 2005FPW... uses the same LG panel used in the Apple Cinema displays - tell me one review where it is apparently bad for gaming, you wont find many. However i know about the huge backlight leakage issue

BTW mines at 1650x1050 as i sed before, WIDESCREEN MWAHAHA ;D

1024 x 768 however my refresh rate is 60hz and it hurts my eyes :(. So im test0ring it on 800*600 for now. This screen really sucks 85hz is still not enough
