dogs slaughtered in china county due to 3 deaths from rabies

Human lives > Dog lives

It does seem unnecessary, but I would rather have 50,000 dogs die than 50,000, or even 5, human

Spurs some feelings from me too.
Sure it's a health risk to us... but we're animals as much as they are.
They're killing dogs in a 3 mile radius from where a rabies outbreak has been found. I'm sure not every dog will have rabies... Maybe only a few will have rabies.

Shame really :(

i definately agree... but at the same time i can understand people's outrage towards it. i mean in this day-and-age at least... wouldnt it be better to enforce vacination of all dogs?

More vaccinations, less killing. China's supposed to be a growing superpower... act like it.

Usually I don't agree with PETA and their "cruelty-free" lifestyle but I think crap like this is just insanity. I am an owner of a dog and I see him as like a brother to me. Look at that guy holding the dog by its back leg....disgusting is the only word that comes to mind

It is of course horrible, but a bit of a double standard to make such an outcry about this when you probably eat meat and thereby support the bioindustry. Many more pigs than that were killed here when there was an outbreak of foot and mouth disease. If it were chickens, you'd hear no one about it, really. But dogs are easy to emotionally relate to.

For 5 humans? Hm, killing 50k dogs for that is rather out of proportion. You can't really put a value on a human life, like "one human is worth 1000 dogs".

For me personally, if I were asked "either your dog dies or 10.000 random people die" then I wouldn't even hessitate: I'd keep my dog. My dog is a loyal friend, those people I don't even know and don't mean anything to me really.

That's because dogs have been domesticated from wolves so very long ago as human companions and pets... not primarily as a food source.

50,000 dogs killed for just 3 human deaths from rabies. That's a little... extreme. But then again, it is China.

Yahoo! said:
Last week, a county in southwestern Yunnan province killed 50,000 dogs, many of them beaten to death in front of their owners, after three people died of rabies.

Sheesh...I can't imagine how upsetting that must be. :O
