It's official: the new Total War game wil be set in the 18th and early 19th century. CVG has a very extensive preview. Very good news is that we will finally be able to fight out naval battles. And the scope of the campaign map seems to be world wide, since colonies will play an important role.

Can't wait for this game!

total wars are great but meh...i hate the 18-19th century (as in warfare).

i hope they do a remake of Rome total war (or better Ancient total war) and add more depth.

Bah, its the time of gunpowder, Total War is only good in the ancient setting, I agree fully with jverne.

Why is Total War only good in an ancient setting? I totally disagree with that statement. I for one can't wait for a Total World War 2 for example.

If they could attach this to Rome and Medival in the campaign to this, so that one could start with his or her nation in year 0 and end it in year 1850, it would be awesome.

Oh, and does this mean we get Napoleon?

There are too few games set in this period IMO, and that a total war game about this period is being made is just pure awesomeness.

Wow. That timeframe holds all the Napoleonic battles, Battle of Trafalgar, American War of Independence, American Civil War, Zulu's, what more can you ask. I am hoping all of those are in there, making a stand at Rorke's Drift would be awesome :D

Even though there is a mod I'm surprised CA never came up with a Middle Earth Total War, the engine was just made for something like that. ah well.

The battle at Rorke's Drift was 1879 and E:TW will span the period between 1700 and 1820. Not that mowing down hordes of Zulu's wouldn't be cool ofc ...

Oh, my friend may well be working on this game. I shall have to ask.

damn, yeah just read the article. Never mind, teaching those rebelious new world colonials to drink Tea properly will be fun ;)

I always wanted to make a METW mod for MII instead of Rome.

I'd rather they fixed the big M2TW bugs before starting a sequel..

I wish they'd do a Warhammer 40,000 Total War.

Biggest problem I see is actual warfare at this age is somewhat rubbish.

Infantry tactics are very limited, stand in a line and shoot... Cav somewhat interesting but really low in power at this age.

Bioshock style water ftw!

Except Bioshock water looks better, but it's crusted and nice.

I recommend reading more about warfare in this age, movies are very disrepresentive about it.

They should make a

Martians: Total War of the Worlds

I'm talking about HG Wells original concept, not all those shite films that decided to give the aliens shields

Because the engine is at its best in close quarters fighting imo, the introduction of gunpowder for the Total War series really has put me off it. I just felt Rome: Total War had a large edge over Medievil: Total War 2.

:O

Preview has been taken down

:O

It was a PCGUK Preview, and i made a comment about it being stupid to put an exclusive Preview on the webby before the Mag is even released...think they might've taken my hint!

The thing is, I didn't have time to read the article earlier, just to post about the stupididty of posting an exclusive online before the mag is out....so i've got to wait til i get my Subs copy

D:

I've read enough to know that I'm really not interested in it.

Naval battles, yeah, though they're gruesome, the big ones are more or less dull as well.

We'll all go in a big line and shoot at each other...

I couldn't disagree more, it's all about formations, when to go hand to hand and when to shoot, when to start shooting ect.

I can't wait.

Hopefully I'd like to see diplomacy play a bigger part too.

Imagine! Sending armies through Stargates without knowing the dial adress to any planet (except Abydos, but let's skip that) and them ending up in the middle of a sun. :p

Its just as much "stand in a line and shoot" as medieval combat is just "hit the other guy with a sharp metal object".

Its A LOT of maneouvering, flanking, formations, cavalry harassment, artillery, timing etc...

Meh it could be good, then again it could be crap. Ill wait and see the reviews think of it.

Don't you know that this era had the best exchange ever in military history?

This really happened at the Battle of Waterloo:

*cannonball explodes near the Duke of Wellington and his staff*

*A lieutenant looks down*

Lieutenant: Egad, I've lost an arm!

Wellington: Egad sir, so you have!

*The lieutenant collapses dead*

A dozen eyewitnesses swear this conversation actually happened.

Well I am currently being severely beat-down on MTW2...damn why is everyone at war with me!

D:

Didn't the Lt say 'Sir, I believe Ive lost an arm...' before failling off his horse lol. I dont think he died.

I might be mistaken. At least someone else has heard of it. I'm pretty sure both said "Egad!" though.

Well, it is called Total War...

Too total for my liking at times :hmph:

Got Portugal, Sapin, Holy Roman Empire, Milan and Denmark all attacking me

D:

Was fine til I attacked the French!

D: Indeed. Who are you, England? How did you manage to offend Milan from way over there?
