You can enter the Giveaway in one of two ways.

1. Purchase the Half-Life 2 Gold Package via Steam by December 31, 2004.
2. Or if you are a United States resident you can enter by sending a postcard marked "Valve HQ Trip Giveaway" to the following address: PO Box 1688, Bellevue, WA 98009. Your postcard must be received by December 31, 2004 and include your full name, birth date, address, phone number and email. Incomplete or late entries will be rejected.

its U.S. law, that it is illegal to have a contest, or giveaway where the only entrance is by buying a product or service. so get to it, send those postcards in!

Shhh!

This decreases our odds of winning! ;)

Actually I believe they must have the same odds for people who buy the product and people who don't.

People who buy the product increase the chances of another draw by 1/5000, so it seems logical to me that people who send in postcards must also rise the chances of another draw.

Since this "giveaway" involves consideration (ownership of the game in this case), chance, and a prize, it becomes an illegal lottery if Valve doesn't provide a "no purchase necessary" entry.

However, if Valve is like any other company, I seriously doubt they will draw a postcard winner. In other words, don't waste a postcard, ink, and a stamp.

JPack - it becomes an illegal lottery if they do not follow the lottery legislation which means they have to give people an equal chance to win wheter they entered by postcard or not.

If they didn't, they could be sued. The question is who would find out about it, but I believe that many large lotteries actually have to have state lottery representatives present during the drawing to ensure its fair.

Perhaps....

A representative may be present, but what guarantees that Valve will produce all the postcards that they received? ;)

really? tons of companies offer those "soft drinke look under the cap to win" things, you mean i can enter those for free?
