evolution in action!

So you're a caterpillar expert.

How's that working out for you?

Pests are always evolving resistances to pesticides, the only thing new here is that they evolved resistance to a pesticide created by a GM plant.

They really need to start pyramiding such transgenic pesticides in GM crops, it would be far more effective. Sigh.

You wouldn't believe how well it pays.

And I bet you get all the chicks, too.

So, we are losing the ability to kill smaller things. If we somehow lose the ability to have sex, we as a species will have nothing to do anymore. We're screwed.

we still have no known records of speciation occurring ever except in fossils.

Yeah clearly we should have observed speciation dozens of times in the past 150 years we've known to look for it -.-

What do you mean by "except in fossils" that's like saying viruses have never been directly observed "except through microscopy".

Interesting news, but caterpillars in the South of the USA have resistance to evolution.

I dont know if you're doing this intentionally or not, but you've been talking a lot like iGod or any of those instant messenger bots recently. Im hoping its not intentional, and you're just a robot who has managed to trick us into thinking you're human/

Not evolution.
Adaptation.

Incorrect. An adaptation is a result of evolution. Yes, they have adapted to be immune to the toxin, but only after evolving the mechanisms that make this immunity possible. This caterpillar has indeed evolved.

god said

"ohh poor caterpillar, lets give them superpowers" and the light shined on to the caterpillars

What I am saying is that we have no evidence clearly indicating how speciation occurs. All we have are theories. We have never seen a species diverge from something that already exists. We have fossil records of species in the past, and we have live records of species which evolved from those fossils. But we have no complete idea how it happened.

I don't know what you're talking about, Krynn.

Evolution and adaptation are not the same. Adaptation is a process of evolution.

Clearly we don't have evidence because God did it. ALL HAIL MIGHTY GOD

Hail! See these dinosaur fossils? They lived 5000 years ago, flew through the air in an incredible feat of physics and breathed fire through their nostrils. It's so obvious!

There's actually quite a lot of evidence for our 'incomplete' theories of speciation. We haven't seen it happen directly but we can see where, how and when it happened.
