I totally remember back when I was a kid I thought of the coolest game idea where it was an RTS/FPS. One person could be the commander and the rest were regular units. A week after that savage came out. I then sent a mail bomb that killed everyone in the building. Or at least I wanted to. Bastards.

I remember having an idea along the lines of a simple deployable funnel and tank, made out of cheap recyclable materials. The objective of which was to collect reserves of clean water for third world countries. The funnel would slope from twice the tank radius to the center of the tank to preserve water against evaporation, and would have some "give" based on a spring-hinge system for the supports of the funnel for a wider mouth in heavy rains (more pressure = funnel mouth widens).
To my knowledge this hasn't been created yet, so if people here think the idea has no major flaws I may get around to creating it.

Anyway, this windbelt sounds great.

It's really awesome for getting all my crazy ideas organized into a more useful forum; especially since I often have creative spurts with tons of great ideas about all sorts of stuff & I can throw it all down quickly here and then develop it later.

You can really use it for anything; recording ideas, making ideas happen, business plans, to-do lists, etc. I use Mindjet Mind manager, but here's a great one thats absolutely free!

I'm not totally sure I see how this would work, as isn't the effect hes using there essentially resonance? So if he wants to get that belt to vibrate with a decent amplitude (and thus the maximum power output) then only a small band of wind speeds are going to do the job? Meaning that most of the time the belt just won't be generating at all.

Though I suppose this is true for wind turbines as they are now, in that they only work on certain wind speeds, but I would expect that the range of speeds would be much smaller for the belt.

Looks nifty though.

yes it works on resonance between the belt and wind.

at first look, it seems that it would only work at certain speeds, since the belts own frequency must match the winds frequency.

one problem to solve that is to apply different tension to the belt so the correct frequency is matched.

on the other hand, i think this could only work in turbulent wind flows, but i'm not sure. most winds just above the surface are turbulent, so that shouldn't be a huge problem.

No, but the missing tiles caused a weakness in the skin that allowed the plasma to enter the hull, blowing the tire causing the low tire pressure sensor to trip, then the plasma weakening the wing spar and the damage radiating through the ship until eventually it was no longer strong enough to hold together...
