Some people say figures won't happen because the game is too old and the hype has died down, but with episode 3 on the way I say they should make a collector's edition with a figure like they did with Bioshock and Resistance. Or maybe a bust of the G-man, Gordon and Alyx. I'd prefer high end 1:6 figures like the one's hot toys and medicom puts out. But I think figures included with a collector's edition is more likely.

They actually have made a Freeman's model, er, if that was Valve, but otherwise I really don't mind if they make them or not. I wouldn't mind some on my desk, that's for sure.

there is probably a website that you can make your own figures at. the latest rave on the net is 'design it yourself' type shops now

Damn son you got both the Hot Toys AND the Medicom Batman figures? You have my respect.

I'd hope that Valve would commission something better than Bioshock's Big-Daddy... that thing was pretty damned unimpressive.

I doubt they will ever make any figures and I'm sure that Valve never approved any thrid-party merchandise toys.

what about the dude that made his own strider model and his own hunter model?

Darkside55 I grabbed that pic from a review comparison. I ordered the Medicom version and will shurly get the new deluxe dark Knight figure with moving eye's that Hot toy's has announced.

Otto-Grainer is this the freeman model you are referring to

I've seen the strider model, but does anyone have pics or a link of this Hunter model?

oh spanish gordon

edit: holy shit they have a shadow man figure

Ehhh merchandise would probably ruin the unspoiled feel of the game.

Yeah man. I don't want Half-Life being spoiled by cheap merchandise. I mean, action figures? What's next? Mugs, t-shirts, parking passes, lithographs, plush toys, hats, mousepads, books...oh wait

Indeed, a quality game( with which i have great memories of my childhood) being consumed in fanboys. Action Figures are ridiculous, i mean really, guys... that just hardens the stereotype of a gamer.

Schall, meet sarcasm. You'll be working together.

So basically, your argument is that you're trying to preserve nostalgic memories of what is already a franchise that's cashed in with unrelated merchandise. Somehow, action figures--action figures which you don't have to purchase or even acknowledge--would sully your glorious childhood memories of a video game. Never mind that other people who have wonderful memories of the game might want to have a piece of plastic sitting on the shelf to admire and recall the game when they look at it. Nah, all that matters is keeping the UNSULLIED AND PURE MEMORY OF HALF-LIFE in pristine condition.

And then you go on to talk about "gamer stereotypes?" Bro...you're obsessing over the nostalgic memory of a video game and posting about keeping said memory free of cash-ins on a forum about said video game.

You ARE a gamer stereotype.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. But be a little more accepting of other fans who want to have a plastic Gordon Freeman sitting on their desk.

I'll admit I was just trying to add on to the post by talking about gamer stereotypes. All I set out to say was that commercialism completely changes the feel of a game. Before you say "It was already a commercial game", I'm just going say merchandise gives it a commercial feel. I just prefer a less commercial feel to a game. I'm not a gamer stereotype, I was just acknoleging that gamer stereotypes picture people sitting on a chair all day on a computer play games and collecting action figures and comic books( which is untrue), and when they hear people talking about it, it makes them sound exactly like the stereotype. I never said there was anything wrong with getting the merchandise, it just changes the feel of the game.

I think you mean it would go from being an underground cult classic to something more like halo... I don't that's the case, though. It's not like we're a part of a secret group.

Yay someone gets it =). I know it was never really not popular, but still, it was a small community which made it a quality game.

Query: who actually cares?

Follow-up: why should you care what anyone else thinks?

You realize that "gamer" is not a respectable term to anyone outside of gamers, right? Even if you say, "Well I'm a gamer BUT I'M NOT ONE OF THOSE TYPES WHO BUY ACTION FIGURES OR COLLECT COMIC BOOKS," you still realize that non-gamers still view you as a guy who spends his time watching people run around a screen blowing each other up, right? Gaming isn't considered a mainstream hobby despite the numbers, and you're still viewed as a nerd. Saying things like, "well at least I don't buy action figures of my games" just makes gamers who do like figures think, "Man, what a tool."

And then the comic book crowd is like, "Oh shit did he just say something negative about comic books?! I WILL COME DOWN ON HIM LIKE THE HULK"

Personally I don't give a shit about the "gamer stereotype." Neither should you.

As for the game being commercialized, it already is, friend. See my previous post. Did your feelings about the game change when you found out Valve made a headcrab hat to wear with your Half-Life t-shirt while you sip coffee from your Black Mesa mug while thumbing through Raising the Bar before driving to work in your sedan that has a Black Mesa parking pass and BMRF bumper sticker while listening to the HL2 soundtrack on CD?

I don't give a shit, but what i'm saying is the people that are stereoyplical of gamers think that way. That's ALL IM SAYING. I don't want to continue this argument, alright.

But if you don't care why did you even bring up what THE PEOPLE think? Eh? EHHHHH?

:p

I think the worst stereotype is that of forum-hounds who get into passionate arguments about politics, moral things, religion, video games, stereotypes, the impending end of the world, what is canon and what isn't, Duke Nukem Forever's release date, and other things that nobody really gives a shit about, even the people talking about it.

Dammit. Now I'm that "always mocking forum-hounds... on a forum" stereotype.

EDIT: Come to think of it, a Black Mesa coffee mug would be pretty cool. Too bad I don't drink coffee. Honestly, the only two games I would buy merch from is Half-Life/Portal (for reasons related to the artistic merit of the entire collection and story and artwork and stuff) and anything from the Command & Conquer series (I wish I could put a Tiberium field in my backyard) , which is a fond childhood memory of mine, right next to Sonic (I guess he's a third. oh well).

Oh yeah!!!I Heard Something About a life size bust!!!!
