While it's true that the HL2 series games (HL2 and Ep. 1) don't have any official mini-games or side missions, I wonder how many of you have found amusment in the following:

--Seeing how many Combine you can snipe in the Nexus courtyard before they all run to their posts. I tried for 5, but ended up settling for a mediocre 4.

--(Ep. 1) Repeatedly shooting down the gunship in the hospital area to see how many different positions you can get it to land in, then humiliatingly punting it around with the gravity gun.

--Fighting the Antlion Guard in the Nova Prospekt shower room, using only non-explosive phys items, on Hard.

Please add to this list.

a wierd thread indeed, but i have always found amusement in letting a rejiggered rollermine own the combine soldiers, and other unjiggered rollers..

That is good fun. I especially like shooting a guy with a live rollermine. Such overkill! It's like beating someone to death with a grenade, then pulling the pin and running away.

Grand prix

Now thats a good thread !!!

In HL2 - in the car levels (sand traps I think)
Converting the levels into Grand Prix a'la Sand Traps:
finishing the tracks in minimum time regardless for dead combines.
( might have to kill a gun ship or two ;) )
Don't remember my times, but it's alot of fun anyway.

Valve or anyone who can should start making some fun side-missions for HL2.:afro:

(or ep.1)

Make your own, forced minigames bog a game down imho. : D

Anyone play that fun Codename Gordon game they offer for free on Steam? Simple, easy platformer.

Codename: gordon? Oooh i still remember that one.

And Jintor: I CAN'T! waaaaa...aa.

Ok not VALVe...but somebody else then.

It landed in the best possible place for me the first time: Right in front of me, susspended from the rafters except its head which was dropping down perfectly in front of me, allowing me to give it a few whacks with the crowbar without having to jump/go up the stairs.

Ive seen the same thing happen a lot of times. Check youtube for ep.1

What happened to that game? Did it disappear with the "new version" of Steam?

I have Codename Gordon on my account.

I know a mini-game: bringing every single ragdollof every single enemy you kill after you get the crowbar with you. It's a pain in the ass.

They took free stuff off the main list because all the demos were cluttering people's accounts. Just look up Codename Gordon in the store and it should say "in account". Then just click the "install game" button.

- Highway 17, trying to get the Combine soldier on the billboard platform to throw a grenade so I can toss it back at him and destroy the platform.

You know the two striders you are supposed to run under near the end of Follow Freeman? Blow them up as soon as they appear. On the streets, you have BARELY enough ammunition to do it on Hard.

If you've got SMOD, there is a huge amount MORE mini-games you can invent, with the 20 or something new weapons, slow motion, zooming thing..

Just a few minutes ago I tried to kill every Combine guy in Nova Prospekt in slo-motion, NOT having unlimited AUX power, so I'd have to stay in cover to regenerate, really hard, but killing in slo-mo is so satisfying.

@riomhaire - I didn't even know there was a search thing at the steam store! My Steam-Box is always shrunken and pushed to the corner of my screen, just enough so I can see my games, because it's all I use it for..

I think I tried blowing up the strider at the train station in E1 with my AR2 ball launcher... and I think I failed. :cheese:

the laser in smod is insane. it can kill gunships and helicopters just by hovering your beam over them.

Is that the one that looks like a pulse rifle - Primary trigger uses green laser, and secondary fire uses a red one?

I can't get that to work, I point it at a guy and it does nothing..

How does it work?

I think it drains your suit power for ammo. If your batteries are empty it does nothing.

Oh... Well I play on Hard, with the SMOD.cfg file running, so I barely ever have health, let alone suit power..

I was actually just playing and figured that out, I only got 12 suit power after a battle, and it went away like no-bodies business when I used the red one (explosions!)
