I've been looking for a while and I'd like to know if anyone knows what book the half life series was based off of, any help will be greatly appreciated :)

No I think it was Freeman who was based of a character from a book, although I might be wrong here, been a while since I have read RTB.

Im pretty sure the storyline was written there and then by the likes of Laidlaw.

I know it might sound like a noobish question(i dont feel like thinking right now :P) but whats RTB and whats "Laidlaw"

oh yea and what character in what book was freeman based off of?

Hell. Marc Laidlaw is a important figure in Valve and RTB is Raising the Bar, a book about the development of HL2. And I believe that HL was made after Stephen Kings book Quiver? Wikipedia is our friend.

As far as I know, Half-Life was not based on any book. Inspired by some, maybe, but there's no "Based on the work of..." type of deal. Marc Laidlaw is the writer who works at VALVe, they guy who wrote the story for the HL series.

It had some elements from The Mist (by Stephen King) in earlier versions, that's all.

After some research i figured out that "Quiver" was the code name for Half Life and not a book by Stephen King

Quiver was a reference to the Arrowhead base in The Mist, which HL was partially inspired by.

I was under the impression that in early stages, Half-life was the "little brother" to Quake, so the concitered calling it Quiver

And it looks like the HL2 story, especially Combine reign over humans, is based on 1984 by George Orwell. Still the best book i ever read.

I wouldn't say based off. Being subjugated by overlords is a pretty common theme, which is why we have the word "Orwellian". I would say that HL2 definitely takes that feel though.
