halflife2.net: Art contest #1 - DISCUSSION

Was about to do this myself :P
What sort of work does it have to be
ie. Does it have to conform to a size, can it be a site layout, a random image? Or do we have free range on what we do?

Free range, so long as its all your own work, and fits the topic of the contest, and no you can't do a pencil scewering an eyeball, thats my idea :p
 
Woo! So does free range mean any type. Like Website, Sig, Avatar, Emoticon Set (???)

Sure, if you want.. but I don't fancy your changes doing a completed website design (gotta be finished works) in two weeks.

And I really don't think a tiny avatar stands a chance against someone who might do a painting or 3D model.
 
It could be a big avatar ;)
So a sig's alright, or just an ordinary image? That's good...

btw it say that can be 3D so I was thinking if I cuold use clay?

I do hope your joking! :O lol the first thing that came into my head when I read the the contest rules was exactly that. :P Ah well back to the drawing board...;)

Well since I said pencil, then yeah it has to be a pencil

The image must contain an eyeball and a pencil _anywhere_ in the image. Doesn't have to be the focus of the image, but it HAS to include both of those in it.

And no, eyes from sticking a face into the picture doesn't count :).. An EYEBALL.

but i suck at surrealism :( i like perfectionand i dont think i have te time what with doing to art modules atm already :( if only i was doing pencils and eyes for one of them lol :(
 
Hmm I've got a really good idea of what I'm gonna do. I may start on the weekend - but like everything I probably won't actually do anything at all. And if your entering Fenric, what the hell's the point in me entering?! ;) :(

Your forgetting I'm fickle and "maybe" only just coming out of months of having artists block, or a burnout or something. So I may end up not entering atall.

I was meant to enter the Valve DM map contest too, couldn't be arsed in the end, so that might happen here aswell hehe.
 
But what about the eyeball on a pencil? :o

No cause you can't attach that to a message (and you need to otherwise people can cheat) Well you could attach it, but the file size is gonna be such a killer, you'd be limited to the point of it being annoying.

link to the image so its viewable, and attached to the message so the two versions can be checked to ensure they both match, if they don't then that person is disqualified.


Best bet just to have jpeg's

I would try to draw something heh, but heck if Dark Elf entering too, what's the point :D
 
Ok so, to some it up, we have to create any design, any size with and eyeball an pencil in and it must be totally original (except for the eyeball and pencil idea, which is given) and then the link to the image in photobucket or whereever and an attachment needs to be put on the final post

yep, the attachment is what counts, the linked image is simply so you can see it without having to click attachments cause we ain't got the thumbnail attachments hack on here.

But seriously, The art contest was what introduced me to the forums, and it's an excellent way for me to vent my creativity (or what little of it i posess). It seems like this one has more of a seriosu theme this time, and is more about the actual art than random ideas. I can't wait till the end of the week , when i have some spare time :)

It means unrealistic :P Can I have some characters from HL2 in it? :D ...or is that considered 'unoriginal' :hmph:
