HL2 is "Not Responding"

Whenever i start up HL2, it says its loading [for about 3 minutes] then when i hit Ctrl+Alt+Del i look at Applications and it says its "Not Responding"
My CS:S works fine
my comp meets minimum requirements

Windows XP Home Edition
Pentium 4 @ 1.9 GHz
640 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64 MB [w/ DirectX 9c]

anyways, do u guys know wats wrong? ive been trying to figure this out for the past 3-4 hours

forget about it..i know whats wrong...i lack patience ;D
so i turned on my HL2...went in the bathroom...used the toilet, washed my hands, then brushed my teeth..then..VOILA it was up..hehe u can delete this thread, sry
