I wonder if there will be any possibility to back up your Half-Life 2 files, if you order it via Steam. I mean it will be really annoying to download the whole contest everytime you reinstall Windows or Steam. Any ideas?

You can copy the Cache file to CDs. And you can give them to friends as well.

You can backup your steam cache files at any time, just burn them to a cd, and you can copy them back at any time.

u can back up the GCF and the Folder it creates, then copy them into a new steam installation, and steam will download any changes since u backed up.

Is backing up your Steam cache to CD-ROM really a practical idea? Half-Life 2 will weigh in at over 3 gigabytes so you'd either need to use a DVD writable or span your backup over multiple CDs.

Yeah, they are basically the game.
Basically? :p

The game will be split into CD-size chunks. So there will be textures, textures 2, sounds, models, maps etc. cache files.

halflife2.gcf

You can split it up using a number of programs that can do so, but the package is likely to arrive in one cache file only.

I'll admit that I don't have proof, but it's my estimation, if you do however have proof, do list it.

I have 200GBs of DVDs in front of me. I am not worried about backing anything up.
Cause, everything is already on DVDs.
ahhahhahhahah
I always win.

Which reminds me... I need to install a DVD player on my comp.. in case HL2 will come on DVDs.
