When I start up HL2DM, I get this weird screen with the guns at the top of it and it says "Half Life 2" with no deathmatch under it, and a picture of a medkit next to the "L." Yeah, it's messed up.

I don't have the "Create Server," and "Find Server," buttons, I have New Game and Load Game. However, the options are HL2DM options (change player model, name, etc.).

Please help!!

My only guess is that steam hasn't finished downloading all the content.

Right click Half Life 2: Death Match from your steam menu and make sure it is at 100%.

I have had HL2DM since it came out, I think it's done downloading. I've actually played it before, this is a recent occurance.

I'm at a complete loss. Try deleting game content and downloading again.

There's never a need to delete the game content. One of the most intuitive things about Steam is that if your installation does get corrupted, you do not need to uninstall and then reinstall it, or in this case, download it all again.

Back in the old days you'd have to uninstall the game, reinstall it, then download all of the relavent updates. Now all you need to do is Verify your Cache Files for HL2DM and also for HL2.

The whole process takes about five minutes and if it finds any discrepancies between the one on your computer and the one on the content servers, it will download/repair anything that's damaged.

I've always wondered if that applies to custom content as well. Probably yes, don't you think?

No. It only checks the cache files.

So in theory it's also a good idea to remove/rename custom content if something goes wrong with the game such as unexpected crashing, graphical glitches etc. just in case the custom content is corrupting something.

I have done this, but I am still getting the following error:

"The instruction at "0x2406dd69" referenced memory at "0x0106facc". The memory could not be "read"."

I have the " +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1" already entered in the "launch option". I still can not get HL2DM to work. :( This is just one of the problems that I am having w/ this $54 game.

I finally got HL2 to not crash w/ the same command in the "launch options". CS Source has some really bad lag...& I can no longer play that....I feel that I have completly wasted my $$ on this!!! I love when they sell a Beta game for $54 to millions w/ no real support!!! :flame:

There's plenty of support, you just haven't really looked at where it is.

Visit: http://steampowered.custhelp.com/cg..._new_search=1&p_search_type=answers.search_nl

That's what I got by searching for your exact error message. If the things on those don't help you then you have the ability to register there and open up a support ticket. This means you send an e-mail to their technical support team and they respond with possible things you can try and maybe collect more info from you.

I'm trying to get it drummed into people's head that the support is a lot better than people think :|

OK, I verified for HL2DM. It didn't do anything.

I want to verify for HL2, but will it erase my savegames??

I mean, I've already finished the game, but I'd like to back them up if it's going to...

No, all it does is check your Steam cache files for problems. It doesn't actually remove or delete anything.

It will only repair anything that is damaged.

Well, OK, I verified both now. No such luck. *bangshead on wall*

Ok Kato, would you be able to get a screenshot of this for us?

Best way to do it will be to press the "Print Screen" button when you're on the part where the problem is. (Just to the right of the F12 key).

Then just paste it into any graphics package and save the file as a .jpg file. You should then be able to attach it to a post.

Chris, I am not stupid. I have been working with Graphic Design for over three years, and know how to post a picture.

That being said, here is my screenshot. :)

(BTW, sorry if it's a bit fuzzy, I have two monitors, making getting a shot from one very hard...)

Dude, not funny. I can't play HL2DM. That is very saddening.

So...um...can anyone help? Oh, and BTW, after verifying, my HL2 freaked out. Now most of the textures on physical objects are black, and once I heard this lady moaning and saying "I'm hurt!" while doing the teleport scene.

Please help me!

It sounds like you are just making this stuff up. If I were having as many problems as you are having and verifying you .gcf's didn't do it, then I would backup your cfg's and saved games and uninstall Steam and download it again. Then reinstall it. That has the best chance of fixing your problem.

WHY would I be making it up? Not being able to play HL2DM or HL2 is a bad thing.

However I fixed HL2DM. I am VERY happy to be able to play it again :)

So, basically, you can close this thread or whatever and I will remove it from my sig. Thanks for your help *not*.
