How can I get mods for HL2 single player to work with Episode 1?

Because of Valve's dumbass idea to create a stand alone expansion pack obviously I cant just start off from a mod and go into it. I say dumbass idea because this is one of the few games that makes it damned near impossible to mix mods together in any way. Now it seems we have to start from scratch.

Well I hope to god that I'm wrong because it just dosent make sense as to why I shouldent just be able to plug the mod files over EP1's files and come up with the mods gameplay but ep1's stuff. Provided of course you remove the original mods maplists and configs in regards to level changes.

I care so much because in terms of HL2's gameplay, well... common, its so simplistic that it hurts. Yhea the puzzles are fun and all but other than that its just run and gun and not much else.

When the Smod came out I was in shock because it has every thing in terms of what I wanted valve to get off their ass and do. Iron sights, kicking dudes, being able to put bullet wounds in guys after they are dead (instead of just flopping around), pools of blood around a body when floating in water like FarCry, and of course the arsenal of both realistic and just plain kickass weapons which replace the mostly bland halfassed ones valve didnt even bother to realy change.

I realy just wont play the game unless I am using the smod (36), that or substance, possibly another mod as long as it ups the gameplay features to a similer scope.

So I damned near beg of you all for any advice onto getting the mods to work with episode one cause its just sitting on my comp and even though episodic gaming is a dumbass idea, that cliff hanger ending game me no choice. HELP!

You really are an idiot.
Just.... the stupidity.

Go away then and stop buying/playing all their games. Smod is created by an individual team, i'm sure they may have thought about porting their mod to Ep.1, it can't be exceptionally difficult with the skills those guys have. So it's a matter of time.

"Episodic gaming is a dumb idea"

*buys episode 1*

Well customers like you are a dream :)

Why in blazes would you buy a stand alone episode to play mods for the original? Do your research before bashing Valve.

Maybe because Episode 1 is an entirely different game, not an expansion pack.

HL2's gameplay is so simplistic that it hurts. Its just run and gun and not much else.

 What else can I say?

If that's really what you want then wait for the Smod and Substance teams to port the mod. I for one don't mind playing Episode 1 without a Sweet Banana. :p

"Maybe because Episode 1 is an entirely different game, not an expansion pack."

It may be an seperate game in terms of having its own file packs instead of depending on the original for the majority of the base files (no sh*t), but it is the same game, tweaked with a couple of new features but the only thing that seperates them in that sense is implimentation... both have it, one uses it.

Even if it was an incompatable source engine build that wouldent justify calling it a completely different game, as in that the gameplay is identical to the mindless limited unreal style run 'n' gun shooting mixed with a couple of physics puzzles gameplay that Half-Life 2 exibited. The difference is HL2 had a lasting engaging story, EP1 tries to be engaging but dosent stick around long enough to build like hl2 did. I'm sorry if you think that upwards of a year development time between four simple hours of gameplay is acceptable and in all honesty physics arnt all that special any more so all I asked is how you would go about adding the mod to the other.

Saying to wait till the mod team ports it is a very moot point, and I had assumed that in asking my question I had bypassed the obvious since I obviously asked how to do it my self.

As far as why I bought it when episodic gaming (at least episodic gaming with dev times that dont come close to justify its length) is retarded... it was the only thing worth getting on the shelf and I needed something new. Though I wouldent have put my smod sentements first if I had believed my self in thinking that the game actualy wouldent disapoint me and would be new and original...ish, but I was right and in all honesty goddamn it dont let NPC's do things your character cant do or come to equivilents of. If a combine can push you or smack you with his gun you should be able to smack as well, if alyx can kick pin bugs you should at least have something up that ally. A game is supposed to be an interactive experiance, expecialy a shooter. We watch movies to see other people do things, we play games so we can do things, at least adventure games make up for the cenima by keeping you involved otherwise. Shooters dont have that and its been two years since HL2 pretty much and valve hasent been able to come up with any new guns, any new moves, matter of fact nothing new at all.

So if any one knows how to port the mods please let me know. I know I'm missing something right infront of me with this and any help would have me most greatfull. If you dont, then dont bother posting at all, I bought the stand alone for the story, I want to use a mod for the GAME to make the gameplay worth something. Its the same game either way you go. And if your satasfyed with that poor of an effort at gameplay you need to expand your horizons and play... well... practicly any other shooter out there made post FarCry, just try it, its good for you.

Considering Gordon is wearing a big suit and is not very athletic, it you know, might be a little hard to Kung-Fu some one (I would know, when I was in Kung-Fu, it was hard to kick wearing all the padding, and it was not even a suit).

Also remember that well Episode 1 is just part one of Half Life 3, of course the story will not be as fleshed out as Half Life 2.

Please stop your bitching as Valve is not going give baby what he wants.
And quit talking about Far Cry, I am a fan of that game and you are giving me and the rest of its fans a bad name.

PS: The flare counts as a new weapon

Like someone else said, before you bought it, if you had done a little research, you should have realised that the game was simply an extension to HL2 with no new weapons etc.

I bought the stand alone for the story

So if that`s the case, what`s the problem? you got what you wanted, and if you got it for the story, I assume you have HL2, just use the mods with that, that`s the game they were created for.
It was always said it wasn`t an expansion, but an entirely new game, which implies that if it is a new game, then HL2 mods won`t work with a different game.

Shooters dont have that and its been two years since HL2 pretty much and valve hasent been able to come up with any new guns, any new moves, matter of fact nothing new at all.

The game takes place in the city where you played the last game, it would make zero sense to have a shitload of new guns, new moves etc, that you didn`t find/couldn`t do the first time round.

What? Did Gordon just miss them all the first time through the city? Just remember how do do certain things?

From a Story standpoint, which, wether you like it or not, and if your playing the HL series you should understand this, that is what the whole series is primaraly about, story, so if you were expecting major differences from HL2, which people were never even lead to believe their was, you should have done more research before you bought the game.

But then, that`s not what your bitterness is about it is it.

And if your satasfyed with that poor of an effort at gameplay you need to expand your horizons and play... well... practicly any other shooter out there made post FarCry, just try it, its good for you

What? You mean "Pariah"? Maybe "Doom3"? oh you mean "Quake 4"?

Correct me if I`m wrong, but not one FPS has had the depth of gameplay HL2has since HL2`s release.
If you didn`t like HL2`s gameplay, why buy an a sequel that is well known before release to be "more of the same", then go on to complain when Mods for A DIFFERENT GAME won`t work?

The fault is with you, not with Valve, not with the modmakers, next time, check the facts before you buy a game, that`s what most people do when chucking away that kind of money.

Now, now...let's give the kid a chance.
I mean, Smod's sophisticated gameplay is second to none, especially not Half-life 2. :p
