sorry this probably is the most common thread, and i did search i just found too much threads about it, and they all were... pointless

so i ask again. What the hell happens in the beginning of HL2?
I couldnt understand what G-man was saying since my friend at whom's i was playing (more like screaming how 'kin great this game is) has those really cheap speakers.

Basically. When under the G-Man's influence, after accepting employment at the end of Half-Life 1, Gordon is suspended outside normal space-time (He doesn't age for one thing). The G-Man says some cryptic words: "Wake up and Smell the Ashes" implying that Gordon has been "sleeping" and that he is about to be returned to a world in the aftermath of what he set loose at Black Mesa.

The script for that sequence goes something like this:

"Rise and Shine Mr Freeman... Rise and... Shine
Not that I wish to imply you have been sleeping on the job...
No-one is more deserving of a rest...
And all the effort in the world would have gone to waste until...
Well, let's just say... your hour has come again.
The right man, in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world...
So... Wake up, Mr Freeman. Wake up and... Smell the Ashes"

You're then promptly dumped on the wasteland train which is inbound to City 17.

Well, when Gordon defeated the Nihilanth, he was hired by the G-Man, and put into stasis, until G-Man has a new assignment for him. Now, somewhat 10 years later, this assigment has come, and Gordon is taken out of stasis to complete it. His "time has come again."

EDIT: Lol, we posted at the same time.

The 2nd game assumes that you have accepted Gman's offer in Halflife 1: to work for Gman himself.

Then he puts you into a very slow time warp where time almost stops which in effect, preserves you and will only wake up when summoned: you are sort of like a super weapon.

At the introduction of HL2, GMan awakens you and then babbles things about what has happened and what you have to do. Then he unleashes you. Then all hell broke loose.

Note That: Gman is not one of the Combines nor the Aliens. He's more of like intergalactic agent, james bond type who is trying to protect the universe from the alien scum.

He could be any of these things or none of them. No one knows what the G-Mans intentions or Alliances are.

ya i know. When i finished the game the first time i didn;t walk into the portal, and then Hman transports me to a room with like infinite bad guys, then it says i was terminated. :(

ALL RIGHT ZOMBIE FREEMAN!!!!

^it wouldve been fun if the game let us fight those countless aliens until Gordon runs outta ammo and left wid only his crowbar. hehe!

When Gman was speaking at the beggining of the game, I was totally impressed by the facial expression. SuperB!

Anyways, Mr.Freeman, we hope by now you know how HL2 begaN?
